Have you ever observed how fish are behaving? Or wondering how various fishing gear and ships are designed? Apparently, it is studied and becomes one of the courses in the Capture Fisheries Management and Technology Study Program (Prodi) of IPB University.

In this study program, students can study fish behavior in the Fish Behavior course and practice assembling fishing gear in the Fishing Gear course. In addition, the Fishing Vessel course is also one of the students’ favorites. This is because they can learn to design their own fishing vessels during practicum.

This study program, which is under the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) of IPB University, has a broad scope of learning. Starting from management to fisheries policy.

Here, students will study various subject disciplines. These include shipping architecture, fisheries biology, oceanography, hydroacoustics, fish handling and processing technology to fisheries marketing and economics.

Dhea Khaerani Hudaya, the Best Graduate of FPIK from SMA Negeri 2 Cibinong, Bogor, shared her impressions while studying in the Capture Fisheries Management and Technology Study Program at IPB University.

“While studying in this programme, I found a comfortable and conducive learning environment. In addition to supportive facilities, a diverse group of friends and lecturers who are very friendly with students also make the lecture period more enjoyable,” said Dhea, who plans to work at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP).

By choosing the Capture Fisheries Technology and Management Study Programme, we are also lucky to be able to utilise Indonesia’s marine wealth. We know that the potential of our marine resources is huge. Therefore, this potential is very necessary to be supported by qualified human resources (HR).

The standard and quality of this study programme is also proven by the acquisition of national accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN PT) with an ‘A’ grade and international accreditation from The Accreditation Agency for Study Programmes in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Mathematics (ASIIN).

Many of the alumni have successful careers as company officials and policy makers in the marine and fisheries sector. For example, Imas Masriah ( Chief of Cilacap Ocean Fishing Port) and Kusdiantoro (Secretary of the Directorate General of Marine Spatial Management, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries).
