Nusantara Fisheries Port (PPN) Karangantu in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries Resource Utilization (PSP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) IPB University, held a Technical Guidance on Good Fish Handling Methods (CPIB) on 28/2 at the PPN Karangantu Hall, Serang Banten.

Prof Ari Purbayanto, representing the Chairman of the PSP Department, expressed his gratitude for the cooperation between PPN Karangantu and the PSP Department. “In addition to community service activities in the CPIB Bimtek program, PPN Karangantu is also used as a location for Freedom of Learning-Independence Campus (MBKM) internships for PSP Department students,” he explained.

PSP Department lecturer, Dr Sugeng Hari Wisudo, was present as a resource person to convey the importance of handling fish on board with CPIB standards. “Fish handling is a very important activity to maintain fish quality. Handling is carried out when the fish is just caught on the boat, at the port, in the hands of consumers,” he explained.

Another informant, PSP Department Lecturer Dr Zulkarnain, delivered material on environmentally friendly fishing gear and bait booster fishing aids.

The participants were port-based fishermen who are crew members (ABK) of small-scale fishing vessels (5–10 GT). Fishermen who have carried out good handling will get CPIB certification as a condition if they carry out export activities.

After the BIMTEK program, discussions were held related to problems in PPN and it alternative solutions. Several people attended on this occasion, including the Chairman of PPN Karangantu and PSP lecturers, Prof Gondo Puspito, Prof Domu Simbolon, Dr Ronny I. Wahyu, Dr Am Azbas Taurusman, Dr Retno Muninggar, Dr Wazir Mawardi, and Dr M. Dahri Iskandar, Julia Eka Astarini and Dwi Putra Yuwandana. (*/Lp) (IAAS/FAE)
