IPB University’s Center for Regional Assessment, Planning and Development (P4W) held a book review of “Issues and Actions in the Puncak Area in Ecological and Social Perspectives,” 23/2. The book is a collaboration of IPB University researchers. The book was written by Prof Ernan Rustiadi, Arif Rahman, Siti Wulandari and Setriyardi Pratika Mulya.

This book records the various problems faced by the puncak area in Bogor Regency. The dynamics of Puncak management contained in this book are expected to be a lesson for other peak areas in Indonesia.

Chairman of P4W IPB UNiversity, Prof Baba Barus expressed his appreciation to the authors who have successfully completed the book. “Puncak is something interesting, a lot can be obtained, starting from economic issues, planning and development. Puncak also concerns other regions, this is something interesting”

In this book review, Prof Ernan Rustiadi discussed the content which is a compilation of student research results from the Bachelor, Master and Doctoral programs. He said that there was a considerable change, namely an area that was previously a protected forest area of 3800 hectares turned into a production forest area and a plantation area. This causes the protected forest area to decrease.

“Puncak area, Bogor has complex problems including agrarian issues, land ownership and control, spatial inconsistencies and in the field there is state land grabbing,” said Prof Ernan Rustiadi, author of the book as well as Vice Rector for Research, Innovation and Agromaritime Development of IPB University.

Not only that, said Prof Ernan, the decline in green open space cover, the growth of villas that are not intended to trigger floods and landslides. The phenomenon of floods and landslides must also be watched out for because of the vulnerability of the carrying capacity of the Ciliwung river area.

“We also evaluated the rampant encroachment in Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park. This encroachment activity is feared to cause more ecological disasters,” said Prof Ernan Rustiadi.

This book also received appreciation and discussion from spatial experts Dwi Hariyawan Sutrisno (Director General of Land and Space Control and Order – Ministry of ATR/BPN), Komara Djaja (Lecturer of Urban Development Studies Program – University of Indonesia), Rudy Tambunan (Lecturer of University of Indonesia), Een Irawan Putra (Director for Urban Sustainability Program – Rekam Nusantara Foundation), Ajat Rochmat Jatnika (Chairman of Bappedalitbang Bogor Regency).
