Lecturers of the Department of PSP Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences IPB University Provide Basic Safety Training Fisheries to Fishermen in Cirebon
The Directorate of Vessels and Fishing Equipment (KAPI), Directorate General of Capture Fisheries (DJPT) of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) in collaboration with the Polytechnic of Fisheries Business Experts and the Department of Fisheries Resource Utilization (PSP) of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences IPB University, held Basic Safety Training Fisheries at the Perikanan Nusantara Port (PPN) Kejawanan Cirebon on 25/2.
Chairman of the PSP Department, Prof Eko Sri Wiyono said that this activity was one of the implementations of the cooperation agreement between DJPT and FPIK IPB University. “The participants who attended were fishermen based in the port totaling 130 people who were crew members of fishing vessels above 30 Gross Tonnage (GT),” he said.
Dr Budhi H Iskandar and Dr Zulkarnaen as lecturers of the PSP Department who attended as resource persons delivered material on work safety at sea and fish handling on board.
In his presentation, Dr Budhi said, “Safety starts with self-awareness, therefore the knowledge and skills of fishermen need to be improved related to work safety at sea including preparation, operation and post-operation,” he said.
In addition to the training, discussions were also held related to fishing problems and alternative solutions. The event was attended by the Director of KAPI DJPT-KKP, Head of Kejawanan VAT and lecturers of PSP IPB University including Prof Mulyono, Prof Imron, Dr Iin Solihin, Dr Darmawan, Dr Ronny I. Wahyu, Dr. Didin Komarudin, Dr. Akhmad Solihin and Rena Manohara. (IAAS/SNI)
