The Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences Program (AGH) is an undergraduate program in the Faculty of Agriculture (Faperta) at IPB University. This program is well-suited for those interested in plants, whether they are food crops or ornamental plants.

By joining this study program, students will learn how to maximize and sustainably produce crops. Throughout their studies, students will gain knowledge about the processes and techniques of agricultural plant management, ranging from soil cultivation, seed planting, fertilization, pest control, plant diseases, to harvesting.

Graduates of the Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences Program at IPB University are expected to develop superior varieties, precise cultivation techniques both in vivo and in vitro to support the quality and sustainability of production, and provide quality seeds for plant production continuity.

The knowledge imparted in the Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences Program at IPB University is extensive, covering aspects such as plant genetics and breeding, seed science and technology, eco-physiology, and plant production, using both conventional and biotechnological approaches.

An interesting aspect of this program is that students not only learn the technical aspects of agriculture in the field but also gain an understanding of agriculture from economic, political, and social perspectives. They acquire skills to identify, analyze, and determine alternative problem-solving approaches.

“Students are also taught to evaluate the production process through planning management to create sustainable production,” said one of the top graduates from the Faculty of Agriculture in the Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences Program, Muthi’ah Khairun Nisa, while sharing her experience during her studies at IPB University.

One of the strengths of the Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences Program at IPB University is its national accreditation with an A grade from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). The program has also received international accreditation from The Accreditation Agency for Study Programmes in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences, and Mathematics (ASIIN).

Job Prospects:
Graduates of the Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences Program at IPB University have promising career prospects. They can become agricultural entrepreneurs, lecturers, employees of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), government officials, or private sector employees in plantation companies, seed industries, or agricultural product processing industries. Becoming a consultant in the field of agriculture or a researcher is also a viable path for graduates of this program. (MHT/Rz) (IAAS/Hap)
