Targeted to Achieve Excellent Accreditation, Department of Economics of IPB University Receives Lamemba Visitation

Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB University received a visit from the Institute for Self-Accreditation of Management Economics, Business and Accounting (Lamemba). The visitation was in the scope of field assessment in order to achieve the target of superior accreditation for the Undergraduate Study Program (S1) of Development Economics.

The visitation was conducted in the Dean’s Conference Room of FEM IPB University, Dramaga Campus (11-12/1). The assessors were Prof Indra Maipita from State University of Medan and Prof Rossanto Dwi Handoyo from Airlangga University.

Dean of FEM IPB University, Dr Irfan Syauqi Beik said that this accreditation process is an effort to maintain the quality of education. Moreover, the accreditation of the Development Economics Study Program will expire and needs to be extended.

“This is our obligation to maintain the quality of education which, among others, is realized through the accreditation process. In this accreditation process, we hope that there will be a significant increase in quality from time to time, quality, service, and scientific development,” he explained.

Therefore, said Dr Irfan, through this accreditation he hopes to receive constructive input from the assessors so as to strengthen the institution and the Development Economics Study Program of IPB University. “Hopefully it can also continue to encourage the development of the role of economics in the future in the context of community development of the nation and state,” he added.

Chairman of the Department of Economics of IPB University, Dr Tony Irawan revealed, the accreditation process to Lamemba was the first time carried out by the Department of Economics. Previously, the accreditation of the Department of Economics was carried out through the National Accreditation Board of Higher Education (BAN PT).

“We have made improvements following what has been suggested by the Quality Management Office (KMM) of IPB University,” he said.

Responding to this, Chairman of Accreditation and Certification Division, Quality Management Office of IPB University, Dr Mochammad Riyanto said that the field assessment activity was a prerequisite for the sustainability of the study program. According to him, so far the Development Economics Study Program has been very good.

“We direct all study programs at IPB University to be accredited superior and in connection with this visitation, we are optimistic that the Development Economics Study Program can be accredited superior,” he hoped.

Furthermore, he said, IPB University continues to strive to conduct internal reviews to study programs that will carry out the accreditation process. IPB University continues to encourage the acceleration of accreditation in accordance with the policies of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) related to quality assurance of higher education.
