FEM IPB University and Kasetsart University Agree to Develop ASEAN Network for Sustainable Food System
One of the most important global issues is related to the sustainability of food systems that can ensure the fulfilment of human needs. In response to this, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Symposium on Sustainable Food System will be held. Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB University is one of the co-organizers of the event.
The activity was organized by a number of universities with the host Kasetsart University, Thailand. In a meeting between FEM IPB University and Kasetsart University on 20/12 in Bangkok, it was agreed to form an ASEAN Network for Sustainable Food System.
The declaration of this network will be done during the symposium in April 2024. Assoc Prof Dr Orachos Napasintuwong from Kasetsart University (KU) stated “The establishment of this network is easier than the formation of an association from a legal perspective, but has positive implications in encouraging the participation and involvement of universities in ASEAN to create a sustainable food system,” said Dr Orachos.
He hoped that the ASEAN Network could be an effective platform for the consolidation of various universities in the development of sustainable food.
Responding to this, Dean of FEM IPB University, Dr Irfan Syauqi Beik welcomed the idea of forming the ASEAN Network and ensured active participation from FEM IPB University.
“God willing, we will actively participate and if agreed upon, we are ready to become the secretariat of the ASEAN Network,” said Irfan.
Meanwhile, Vice Dean for Resources, Cooperation and Development of FEM IPB UNiversity, Dr Lukytawati Anggraeni hoped that many papers would be submitted to the symposium. “We hope that the number of papers can be large so that there are expected to be many innovative ideas,” she said.
At the meeting, another delegate was the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Anna Fariyanti. While from Kasetsart University (KU), the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Asst Prof Dr Visit Limsombunchai, Head of the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Dr Chakrit Potchanasin, as well as Dr Orachos Napasintuwong and Dr Uchook Duongbotsee were present.
