IPB University’s SKHB Conducted Training and Certification of Competence for Veterinary Doctors and Laboratory Animal Practitioners
The School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (SKHB) at IPB University organized training and certification of competence for veterinary doctors and laboratory animal practitioners. This activity is a collaboration between SKHB IPB University and the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP).
The aim of this program is to provide knowledge and skills for doctors and practitioners who are entering the workforce or are currently engaged in work related to laboratory animals. The certification activities took place from 14-18/12.
The first and second days involved presentations on laboratory animals. One of the speakers was Dr drh Huda Salahudin Darusman, Chairman of the Primate Animal Study Center (PSSP) at IPB University. He presented the material ‘Establishing Laboratory Animals for Biomedical Research’.
Also present were drh Lia Siti Halimah, MSi, with the material ‘Supervising Biosecurity and Biosafety Implementation’; Prof drh Ekowati Handharyani with the material ‘Organizing Work’; and drh Imelda Winoto with the material ‘Ensuring the Quality of Laboratory Animals.’
The third day of the program included practical exercises using laboratory animals, including the introduction to laboratory animals, handling and restraint, drug application, and euthanasia.
On the final day, participants took a competency exam for veterinary doctors practicing in laboratory animal settings. Two assessors from the Animal Health Profession Certification Institute (LSP Keswan) and BNSP were present to evaluate the certification participants.
“Despite its brevity, this training hopefully can provide benefits and the right momentum for participants to develop their profession in the field of laboratory animals,” expressed one of the participants who attended this training program. (AP/Rz) (IAAS/Hap)
