IPB University, through the Directorate of Agromaritime Community Development (DPMA), participated in the Indonesia Trade and Tourism Forum and Exhibition (ITTFE) 2023 at the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Kuwait.

In this exhibition, DPMA IPB University showcased various food, beverage, and herbal products processed from agriculture, originating from the Prosperous Village Astra (DSA) and the development products of IPB University.

“These innovative products are the results of the IPB University experts’ mentoring program and the university’s partnered villages. Dozens of enthusiastic visitors visited the IPB University and Banglele Indonesia Maju product booths,” said Dr M Iqbal Irfany, Assistant Director of Social Entrepreneurship (Sociopreneur) at DPMA IPB University.

He mentioned that some of the visitors expressed interest in obtaining more information about the products. Among them were derivatives of porang (in the form of bulbs or flour) and coffee (teabags and green beans of robusta and arabica varieties).

ITTFE 2023 is an event organized by the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Kuwait in collaboration with KCCI.

IPB University was the only university participating in this exhibition. The exhibition participants included 39 delegations, consisting of one university (IPB University) and 17 companies from various sectors, such as furniture and handicrafts, electronics, food and beverages, herbal products, skincare, medical equipment, and tourism.

In addition, DPMA IPB University, together with PT Bangelele Indonesia Maju, the Indonesian Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC) Dubai, and representatives of Kemendag, visited the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) to present information related to agriculture and aquaculture in Indonesia.

“We had the opportunity to give a presentation on agriculture covering digital farming, agricultural development programs, the One Village One CEO (OVOC) social innovation program, the Agribusiness and Technology Park (ATP), and other development initiatives,” said Dr Supriyanto, Assistant Director of Agromaritime Services and Digital Farming at DPMA IPB University.

IPB University’s water cultivation expert, Dr Irzal Effendi, also provided information on the potential of aquaculture worldwide, particularly in Kuwait. As a follow-up to the discussion, IPB University and KISR will collaborate further in the field of aquaculture.

This was confirmed by Amani Al-Yaqout, a representative of the Associate Research Scientist Environment and Life Science Research Center at KSIR. She expressed her interest in following up on the discussion’s outcomes by establishing collaboration between IPB University and KISR.

This activity could serve as an initiation for sustained collaboration, applying IPB University’s innovations in agriculture and aquaculture globally, especially in the Middle East region. (*/Rz) (IAAS/DSR)
