The Healthy Protein Movement, Organized by Student Organizations (Ormawa) from the Faculty of Animal Science at IPB University, Encourages the Community to Regularly Consume Milk and Eggs
In an effort to increase the consumption of milk and eggs in Indonesia, student organizations (Ormawa) from the Faculty of Animal Science at IPB University, along with the Indonesian Student Senate of Animal Husbandry (Ismapeti) and Dedikasi Kita, organized the Healthy Protein Movement in the village of Sinarsari, Dramaga District, Bogor Regency (4/11).
The student organizations involved in this activity from the Faculty of Animal Science (Fapet) at IPB University include the Student Executive Board (BEM), the Livestock Production Student Association (Himaproter), and the Nutrition and Animal Feed Student Association (Himasiter). A total of 40 kilograms of eggs, donated by Fapet IPB University alumni, and 6 cartons of milk were distributed for free.
“We have carried out socialization activities related to the importance of milk and egg consumption to students, children and the community of Sinarsari Village. At the end of October, we socialized and distributed milk and eggs to IPB University students at the Agrisymphony 2023 event at the IPB University coin yard,” said Dodi as the activity coordinator.
Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), milk consumption in Indonesia per capita in 2021 reached 16.27 kilograms per year. This number is relatively low when referring to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) standards. FAO sets a low limit for milk consumption of 30 kilograms per capita per year.
As for data from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Indonesia ranks 114 based on the Asean Development Index (HDI Rank) in 2021. This rank is far below other Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore (rank 12), Brunei (rank 51), Malaysia (rank 62) and Thailand (rank 66).
“In addition, studies show that low animal protein consumption in preschool-aged children can result in normal talent becoming subnormal or even deficient. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the consumption of animal protein as an intelligence program for the Indonesian people,” added Dodi.
Similar activities were also carried out with mothers and children in Sinarsari Village. Acim as the Section Head of Sinarsari Village Government said, “Thank you to all parties involved in the implementation of this activity. Hopefully activities like this will be routinely carried out by students to provide education to the community so that they can adopt a healthy lifestyle.” (*/Rz) (IAAS/Hap)
