The important responsibility of universities in contributing to society is the basis for the IPB University Vocational School (SV) to carry out a real role in solving various problems in society. As a first step, SV IPB University collaborated with Mulyaharja Village to build a social laboratory capable of developing various innovations based on potential and needs in the area.

The Dean of SV IPB University, Dr Aceng Hidayat, in a gathering with Mulyaharja residents (7/11) conveyed plans to concentrate research and community service activities in Mulyaharja Village in the next few years. This plan is based on the breadth of socio-economic-tourism potential in Mulyaharja Village, according to the scientific scope of the 17 study programs (prodi) at SV IPB University.

“The plan is that the IPB University Vocational School will develop various research and community service programs in Mulyaharja Village. “We hope this will be a very positive synergy for all of us,” said Dr Aceng.

He said, the 17 study programs (prodi) at SV IPB University each have different research advantages. It is hoped that the synergy between lecturers, students and the community in Mulyaharja Village will become the main force in developing applied research which is really needed by the community.

Furthermore, Dr Aceng believes that this collaboration will become an action-research model that is able to optimise the contribution of implementing innovation from SV IPB University.

“In the future, we will organise community service programs and the implementation of innovation at SV IPB University focused on increasing capacity and sustainable assistance, so that the traces of our contribution to society can be felt in real terms,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mulyaharja Village Head, Indra Permana explained the social and community conditions in his area. Currently, Mulyaharja Sub District consists of 12 RWs and is one of the largest in Bogor City with an area of 400 hectares.

“This sub-district faces various challenges which include environmental aspects such as waste management, development of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), stunting problems and also problems related to agriculture and tourism,” said Indra.
