The Bureau of Science and Professionalism (Ilpro) of the Animal Nutrition and Food Student Association (Himasiter) of IPB University visited the Artificial Insemination Center (BIB) Lembang, Bandung. Chairman of Himasiter, Dodi Wahyudi said, this program aims to introduce students to the practice of IB in ruminants.

“It is expected that IPB University students can know how to do IB in ruminants, knowing the procedures for taking good and correct semen. Hopefully from this activity, students will be able to know the quality of quality sperm and how to handle sperm so that its quality is maintained,” he said.

BIB Lembang is the first BIB in Indonesia. It is managed by the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan). Its main tasks include production, marketing, testing, monitoring the quality of superior livestock semen to the preparation of IB methods.

Currently, BIB Lembang has 11 services including frozen semen sales, after-sales services, technical guidance, IB management and semen quality testing. Other services include edu-tourism, hall asset services, internship and research services, consultation services, resource person/instructor/judge/assessor services, competency test site (TUK) services and photography services.

“Field visits like this are very good activities for equalizing perceptions between material in college and real conditions in the field. I think this activity can add insight that business opportunities in the livestock sector are very broad,” said Dodi.

Therefore, he continued, visits like this can motivate students of the Faculty of Animal Science of IPB University to produce new innovations to increase livestock productivity. This step will undoubtedly support food security in Indonesia.

Helga Annisa, one of the visit participants, expressed her impression of participating in this activity. “It was very exciting! Lots of new knowledge about how to accommodate cement. The event was cool, and there was also a door prize session at the end. A message for the future, for the duration of the visit to be even longer,” she said. (*/Rz) (IAAS/SHY)
