In collaboration with IPB University and Asia Hub, SEAMEO BIOTROP is holding The 4th International Conference on Tropical Biology (The 4th ICTB). This 4th conference collaborates with the Department of Marine Science and Technology, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, IPB University which also holds an international conference entitled the 5th International Conference on Marine Science (the 5th ICMS).

With the theme “ASEAN Education-23 for Global Connection: Enriching Biodiversity Inspiring People”, this conference will raise important issues regarding biodiversity which are of national, regional and global concern. This conference was held at the IPB International Convention Center, Bogor.

The Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria, said that this activity provided an opportunity to collaborate and exchange ideas. “The 4th ICTB provides a valuable opportunity to collaborate and exchange knowledge to address pressing problems affecting our tropical environment,” he said.

He continued, currently IPB University together with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) are preparing a national plasma center in the National Capital City (IKN) to conserve the genetics of all biodiversity in Indonesia.

“This is a very strategic program so that Indonesia not only has natural wealth but also biodiversity and its genes. “We must prevent the extinction of wild plants and animals by means of genetic conservation,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Director of SEAMEO BIOTROP, Dr Zulhamsyah Imran, said that the 4th ICTB activity was proof of SEAMEO BIOTROP’s commitment and consistency in carrying out its mandate to disseminate information in the field of tropical biology and provide input to policy makers to face global challenges in saving biodiversity and climate change.” he said.

Dr Zulhamsyah Imran hopes that this conference can produce consensus or agreement among the participants regarding the advocacy action agenda for enrichment, conservation and management of biodiversity; and to identify new approaches and synchronization between policy and practice that will form a framework to provide future direction for research and development in sustainable management of biodiversity conservation.
