Introducing Innovation, STP IPB Fest 2023 is Hosted an Open House

As an innovation development area and business incubator, the Science and Technology Area Institute (LKST) or Science Techno Park (STP) of IPB University organised the STP IPB Open House which was one of the series of IPB University’s 60th Anniversary. The event was held from 26 to 29 October at STP IPB University.  Prof Ernan Rustiadi, Vice Rector of IPB University for Research, Innovation and Agromaritime Development said that currently, STP is the heart of IPB University’s innovation so that it can be felt by the community.

The STP Fest 2023 activity raised the theme “Bringing Innovation Closer”. which is intended to provide opportunities to interact directly with researchers, innovators, startups, communities and stakeholders to understand the contribution of STP in the development of innovation in Indonesia.

In her speech, Prof Erika B Laconi, the Chief of LKST IPB University said STP Fest is a joint dream with the aim to introduce IPB University closer to the community from its work.

“Hopefully after this activity you can take the time to see the innovation booths consisting of 41 booths. We also invite the three other STPs namely STP from Gadjah Mada University (UGM), STP from University of Indonesia (UI) and STP Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) which each bring their work,” said Prof Erika.

Meanwhile, Prof Bambang Purwantara, Secretary of the Board of Trustees (MWA) of IPB University said that STP IPB University had produced many extraordinary works and presented the younger generation in an effort to promote downstream technology and innovation.

“MWA as an institution that encourages from the beginning this STP can continue to develop, there is one point that must be remembered by LKST, which is not to forget the departmental laboratories at IPB University. Hopefully we all can continue to see the development of STP as an inseparable part of the progress of IPB University and Indonesia,” he concluded.

Prof Nizam, Executing (Plt) Director General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology (Dirjen Diktiristek) said that the STP Fest 2023 event was a real form of building economic sovereignty through young startups.

“We must encourage industries that ranging from MSMEs to large industries to innovate, and universities play a role in opening doors as a place to innovate. I appreciate IPB University for continuing to collaborate with industry and realising it in the form of STP,” said Prof Nizam.

In the event, there was also a Talkshow Startup Go Global by Prof Arif Satria, Rector of IPB University. He presented the material with the title “Startup: Pillar of Resilient Indonesia”.

“Indonesia can become a developed country if it has stable economic growth. We must learn from demographic bonuses such as South Korea and Japan which can utilise their demographic bonuses by improving skills and competencies in order to survive in this industrial era,” he explained.

He continued, Indonesia must be able to face a world full of digitalisation and new technology so that it must be able to prepare skills in facing these challenges.  “Universities have a strategic role in new industrialisation, in addition to producing people who excel in entrepreneurship, they must also be able to produce superior 4.0-based innovations,” said Prof Arif.

During the STP Fest 2023 event, there was also a Business Gathering event attended by innovators and business partners. This event resulted in the signing of two licensing agreements between innovators and business partners, which were the innovation of zeoponic plant growth media with CV Transindo Mitra Utama and Super denox, Bioremediation Technology with PT Panca Sukses Lestari.

Currently, as many as 40 percent of IPB University innovations have been successfully partnered with industry. In this Business gathering, 24 innovators presented innovative products that are ready to be collaborated with industry such as tempe chol, a tempe-based drink that can reduce cholesterol. Fi-Gen, a halal active collagen drink in powder form to maintain healthy skin, hair, bones and joints. Serini, feminine cleansing tissue, anti-bacterial single packaging; Bioluric innovation as a herbal medicine for gout and anti-gout; Super Denox1 innovation, a water filter based on microbial activity; and Sijaka for the treatment of diabetes mellitus and others.

STP Fest 2023 was more lively because of the inauguration of the STP IPB University Startup Center building, on Saturday, 28 October 2023. This building has been filled with 31 rooms for startups. The event was also enlivened with a Food Festival Bazaar, 300 Startups, millennial companies, Student Creativity Program (PKM)-entrepreneurship, educational games and various competitions including karaoke competitions and colouring competitions for students.
