Investment is not solely about wealth. One thing that is equally important is investing in children. This was conveyed by Dr Istiqlaliyah Muflikhati, a lecturer at the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (IKK), Faculty of Human Ecology (Fema) IPB University in the Quality Family School event, (20/10).

“Investment is not only about wealth, investment in children is also important. Let’s invest in children so that one day they become quality human beings and are useful for family, community, country and religion,” Dr Istiqlaliyah invited the participants of the Quality Family School in Loji Village, Bogor, West Java.

This was the third meeting of the Quality Family School initiated by the Directorate of Agromaritime Community Development (DPMA) of IPB University together with the Department of IKK. In the session, Dr Istiqlaliyah explained the material ‘Child Investment to Improve Child Quality’.

“In an effort to maximise child investment, family resources are an important key that must be utilised wisely. Parents have a great obligation towards their children, both in providing protection, education, and emotional support needed to ensure a brighter future,” she explained.

She also elaborated on the definition of child value, which refers to the understanding of the importance of a child’s role and meaning in family and community life. How to allocate family resources for child investment is a process that involves prioritising the use of funds, time, attention and effort.

All of this, she said, aims to support children’s growth, education and well-being so that they can reach their full potential in life. “The value of children is considered an invaluable treasure, because children are an investment in the future that requires deep attention and understanding,” she added.

Dr Istiqlaliyah divided the value of children into four groups: religious value, economic value, social value and psychological value. She also quoted one of the Quranic verses “And know that your wealth and your children are but a temptation, and there is a great reward with Allah” (Q.S Al-Anfal: 28). (*/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
