Hundreds of Madrasah Aliyah Teachers throughout Indonesia Enliven Practical Training with the Physics Department of IPB University

Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) IPB University in collaboration with the National Madrasah Aliyah (MA) Physics Subject Teachers’ Conference (MGMP) held online Joint Practicum Training. This event was attended by around 300 MA teachers, both public and private, throughout Indonesia, from Aceh to Sorong, West Papua.

Chairman of Teachers and Education Personnel (GTK) of the Indonesian Ministry of Religion (Kemenag), Dr Muhammad Zain appreciated this activity as a means of intellectual development for teachers. Through sharing information and insights in the field of physics, it is hoped that it can increase scientific literacy and numeracy for Muslims and the Indonesian nation.

Meanwhile, Chair of the Physics Department at IPB University, Prof Tony Sumaryada, emphasized the importance of teacher creativity in designing practicums using everyday items and equipment, including the use of online simulations.

“On the first day, there were demonstrations and explanations of various practical materials using items and equipment that we have in our daily lives. IPB University Physics Department lecturers explained material such as kinematics on an inclined plane, vibrations and mathematical pendulums (lato-lato). “On the same day, material for sharpening physics concepts was also carried out using online simulations,” said Prof Tony.

Furthermore, on the second day, material was presented regarding practical data processing, analysis and interpretation using data processing tools (Excel) as well as explanations regarding assignments for teachers.

“We appreciate the holding of this Practical Training activity with the Physics Department of IPB University. This activity can increase teacher competence and creativity in classroom learning activities. “Hopefully this activity will be carried out routinely on an ongoing basis,” said Gugun Gunardi, MPFis as Chair of the National MA Physics MGMP.

Chair of the Basic Physics Laboratory of IPB University, Dr Heriyanto Syafutra also expressed his gratitude for the participation of all parties in the successful implementation of this activity. “We hope that this event can increase the competence and creativity of teachers in designing and designing better learning,” he said.
