Representative of the Principal of SDN Sinarsari, Mae, accompanied by teachers and staff of SDN Sinarsari, inaugurated the library resulting from the renovation of the implementing team of the Student Organization Capacity Building Program (PPK Ormawa) of the Nutrition and Animal Feed Student Association (Himasiter) of IPB University. This step is one of the ‘Hayuk Maca’ literacy corner programs.

The literacy corner in the ‘Hayuk Maca’ program at SDN Sinarsari carries an optimization mission in improving education and literacy through children’s creativity. To support this mission, the Ormawa Himasiter PPK team took various steps, such as remodelling the structure by making murals on the library walls.

“The team also added to the collection of grant books from collaborating partners and made changes to the layout of existing facilities. “This step is expected to bring children comfort in reading or other educational activities,” Mae said

Apart from that, to develop children’s creativity, supporting facilities are provided such as book review boards, inspiration trees, crayons, coloured pencils, markers, post it and other facilities.

During the inauguration, Mae, who represented the Principal of SDN Sinarsari, really appreciated and welcomed this new library. According to him, literacy policies need to be directed at supporting the development of Indonesia’s human resources (HR) in facing the digitalization era of industry 4.0. “Digital literacy needs to be encouraged along with changing times and increasingly rapid technological developments,” he said.

After the inauguration, IPB University students continued digital literacy socialisation activities for grade 6 elementary school children. Nurlita as the head of PPK Ormawa Himasiter said that digital literacy has an important role in accessing information, digital security, as well as communication and collaboration.

“On the other hand, the use of technology has not been fully implemented properly. “Therefore, good technology usage policies are needed, such as managing time and usage limits, avoiding negative and unhealthy content, using technology for self-improvement, maintaining privacy and security and maintaining ethics in communicating via technology,” he added.

Nurlita added that this socialisation is needed as a form of education for children to use technological media well. He also hopes that the inauguration of this library will be able to become a centre for sustainable and increasingly developing learning.

“It is hoped that the library as a creative literacy corner can become a place that does not just accommodate books, but becomes a centre for interaction, knowledge and a channel for creativity for children,” she concluded. (*/Rz) (IAAS/AMR).
