IPB University Student Volunteers carried out the second edition of the Volunteer Talks (Retalks) activity. Retalks II was held to improve students’ abilities and skills in dealing with disasters. This activity also aims to increase sensitivity to disasters, such as earthquakes, floods and landslides.

This time, Retalks raised the theme ‘Volunteers as Pillars of Disaster Mitigation, Fostering a Sense of Humanity Without Borders’. This activity is the result of collaboration between IPB University Student Volunteers and the Bogor Regency Fire Department (Damkar) and SMKN 1 Cibinong. The activity was attended by 50 students.

“We need to increase our capacity as youth. When there is something we may not know about, such as a disaster, we don’t need to panic. Be safe, how to act when a disaster strikes. “Apart from that, schools also need to prepare mitigation facilities such as light fire extinguishers (apar), evacuation routes and gathering points,” said Chairman of the IPB University Student Family Student Executive Board (BEM KM), Imadudin Abdurrahman.

In this activity, the Deputy Principal of SMKN 1 Cibinong and the Head of the Cibinong Regency Fire Department were also present. The material presented includes how to save yourself when an earthquake occurs. Fire handling steps were also conveyed by the Fire Department. Apart from that, this activity also demonstrated directly disaster anticipation measures in order to broaden participants’ insight regarding the topic material being presented. (*/Rz) (IAAS/Res)
