IPB University Graduate School Holds Summer Course on Tropical Agriculture Environment

The Postgraduate School (SPs) of IPB University held an International Summer Course Program with the theme Tropical Agriculture Environment towards Regional Sustainability at SPs Darmaga Building, IPB University. The number of participants was 46 people. They came from IPB University, Ibaraki University (Japan), University of The Ryukyus (Japan), Hokkaido University (Japan), Mindanao State University (Philippines), Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (Philippines), Kalinga State University (Philippines), University of Southern Mindanao (Philippines), Tarlac Agricultural University (Philippines), Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan (Philippines), Visayas State University (Philippines) and Nueva Vizcaya State University (Philippines).

Prof Dodik Ridho Nurrochmat, Dean of SPs IPB University in his speech said that the summer course program has been held every year by SPs IPB University. “We express our gratitude to all universities that are members of the consortium, for giving trust to SPs IPB University to carry out the summer course this year,” he said.

He explained, the purpose of this summer course was to understand regional sustainability through research from various fields of agriculture and ecosystem resilience ranging from disaster, climate change and socio-technological disruption. “In addition, this program is to promote talent in finding problems and discussing them independently, and can develop teamwork to keep up with developments and current issues,” he explained.

According to Dr Liyantono as the program coordinator, the Summer Course 2023 is expected to be a structured student exchange activity with recognition of learning credits that can continue to be sustainable and be able to increase closer academic cooperation. “This activity is part of the cooperation between IPB University and Ibaraki University which has been held since 2006 with alternating organization between Japan and Indonesia,” he said.

The Summer Course 2023 program is not only conducted in the classroom, but also in the form of field work including at Kampoeng Wisata Cinangneng, Sukamantri Experimental Garden of IPB University, Agatho Organic Farm, Cibulao Village Forest Farmers Group, Jonggol Animal Husbandry Education and Research Unit (UP3J) and Oil Palm Education and Research Farm of IPB University.
