The Faculty of Engineering and Electronic Technology at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (Unimap), in collaboration with the Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at IPB University, organized The 4th International Conference on Applied Photonics and Electronics (InCape 2023). Held at the World Trade Center Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, this global photonics (light) conference is a biennial event organized by Unimap, aimed at providing a platform for the dissemination, collaboration, and exchange of the latest scientific information in the field of photonics and its applications for the development of cutting-edge technology.

The IPB University delegation consisted of six faculty members, one doctoral student from the Department of Physics, one PhD alumnus from the Department of Nutrition, and one lecturer from the Department of Computer Science. The delegation was led by the Chairman of the Department of Physics at IPB University, Prof Tony Sumaryada, along with Assoc Prof Irzaman.

During the conference, the IPB University delegation presented 10 papers, including two invited speakers (Prof Husin Alatas and Assoc Prof Irmansyah) and eight contributed speakers. Dr Karlisa Priandana from the Department of Computer Science at IPB University served as the General Chair of the conference.

“One interesting fact is that InCape 2023 is one of the nine conferences held simultaneously at the same venue under the umbrella of the main conference titled Global Trends in Engineering Science and Technology Congress (GTEST) in 2023. More than 500 participants from various countries have joined GTEST 2023,” explained Prof Tony Sumaryada.

In her address, Dr Hasnizah Aris, the Conference Chair of InCape 2023, expressed deep appreciation for IPB University’s contribution to the success of the conference. She encouraged closer collaboration in photonics research, materials, and electronic instrumentation between Unimap and IPB University. She expressed hope for ongoing collaboration in the future as a follow up to this event.

The IPB University delegation also took the opportunity to visit the Education and Cultural Attaché of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuala Lumpur, Prof Muhammad Firdaus, who is also a faculty member at IPB University’s Faculty of Economics and Management. The visit was aimed at discussing and dialoguing about the development of higher education in Malaysia, especially regarding initiatives such as joint degree programs, joint supervision, joint research, and student exchange and mobility with various universities in Malaysia.

The Department of Physics at IPB University received support for this initiative through funding from the Global Connectivity Program at IPB University, as well as research funding from the Education Fund Management Agency (LPDP) of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia.
