BEM KM IPB University Discusses Development Conditions with Bogor City Government
IPB University’s Student-Family Executive Board (BEM KM) collaborated with the Bogor Initiative and Bersama Indonesia to hold a public discussion discussing development in the city of Bogor. Present were Dedie Rachim, Deputy Mayor of Bogor, Atang Trisnanto, Chair of the Bogor City Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD), and Grady Nagara, Executive Director of Next Policy.
Coordinating Minister (Menko) for Movement and Services of BEM KM IPB University, Ikhwan Prasetiyo, said that this discussion event was a forum for expressing the concerns and hopes of Bogor youth regarding the development of their city to be conveyed to the Bogor City Government. “We appreciate it because the City Government wants to communicate with young people for the future progress of Bogor City,” he said at the event which took place at the Bogor City Library Auditorium.
Three points of view in looking at government make the discussion rich in perspective. From an executive perspective, Dedie Rachim discussed the progress of Bogor City development. He explained a number of achievements by the Bogor City Government, such as an economic growth rate of 5.63 percent, number three in West Java. Bogor also received an unqualified predicate (WTP) in the BPK Opinion (BPK) on financial reports.
Dedie also explained the acceleration of transportation development that would be carried out in Bogor City in the future. The development mode plan consists of rail-based mass transportation, bus-based mass transportation and urban transportation as feeders. Other development plans that are now being fully pursued include the revitalization of the Bogor City Grand Mosque, the addition of pedestrian and bicycle lanes and the construction of roads.
Atang Trisnanto, Chairman of the Bogor City DPRD who was also present, conveyed the development conditions from a legislative perspective. “Indeed, development, especially the provision of public facilities, is okay,” he said in response to the theme of this discussion. He also provided several notes for evaluation.
“Leaving people unintelligent will mean that politicians are vulnerable to taking advantage of that stupidity. “It’s time for young people to master politics and develop good performance,” he said to the young people present.
Grady Nagara, Executive Director of Next Policy as a public policy observer completes the point of view of this discussion. Grady explained that the development of a city must be based on the principles of justice.
The Co-Founder of Bersama Indonesia also provided motivation to the participants. “Young people should also be given space to participate. “Struggle alone will not be enough, build a youth union that is serious about bringing intergenerational justice,” he concluded. (Ikhwan Prasetiyo/Rz) (IAAS/Res)
