Students of the IPB University Innovation Real-Thematic Work Lecture (KKN-T) in Wiromartan Village, Kebumen, Central Java, conducted training on garnish making and fruit carving for women empowering family welfare (PKK). Zahra Timur Eda, a student representative of KKN-T Innovation IPB University explained that the training on making garnishes and fruit carving used several fruits and vegetables grown in Wiromartan Village.

"Garnish and fruit carving are activities to beautify food and beautify the shape. Fruits and vegetables used as ingredients for making fruit carving and garnish include watermelon, crystal guava, tomatoes, curly chili, carrots, cucumber and mustard greens," she said.

Therefore, Zahra said, hand skills are needed to carry out this activity. With the training activities for making garnishes and fruit carving, it is hoped that it can increase the skills and creativity of PKK mothers in making decorations from soft fruits or vegetables and can be applied to other activities.

"The activity began with the division of PKK women into six groups. Each group was given a set of equipment for carving along with the fruits and vegetables to be formed. Then we gave a demonstration on how to carve vegetables and fruits. While demonstrating, the PKK women followed the directions from the IPB University students," added Zahra.

Training on garnish making and fruit carving was also conducted in order to train skills before the August 17 competition which will be held in approximately one month. The event is an inter-village competition in Mirit Sub-district. "Very coincidentally, this training can also be used to train PKK mothers in the tumpeng decorating competition later," said Wiji as the Head of PKK Wiromartan Village. (*/Rz) (SAB)
