NUTRIGEN: IPB University Innovation KKN-T Team’s Efforts in Stunting Prevention in Bogor District

IPB University students in the Innovation Real-Thematic Work Lecture (KKN-T) activities carry out a program entitled NUTRIGEN (Nutrition for Future Generations). This program is one of the efforts to prevent stunting in Bogor Regency. This is in line with the strategy that is also implemented by the Bogor Regency Government, which is towards zero stunting.

In 2021, the stunting rate in Bogor Regency will reach 9.98 percent. In the following year, the Bogor Regency Government succeeded in reducing more than 50 percent of the stunting rate to only 4.78 percent through the Rembuk Stunting program as a representation of the 2019-2024 Bogor Regency Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD) in realizing zero stunting.

The NUTRIGEN program is implemented in several villages with indications of stunting in the Bogor Regency area, one of which is in Cibanteng Village, Ciampea District. Cibanteng village has a population of nearly 17,000 people, which are divided into 49 RT areas and 10 RW areas. Of the 10 RWs, there are 3 RWs that are still indicated to be stunted.

The series of NUTRIGEN program activities are in the form of stunting counseling seminars and the distribution of nutritional support food ingredients to the village community.

The seminar was hosted by Dr. Yulina Eva Riany, lecturer at the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, Faculty of Human Ecology, IPB University. The seminar entitled 'Stunting Prevention Strategy through Family Empowerment' discussed the role of the family as the main supporter of child development.

The seminar was attended by Cibanteng Village Posyandu cadres who are expected to be able to become an extension of education regarding stunting prevention more broadly to the community in realizing Cibanteng Village without stunting.

After the counseling seminar, an activity was held in the form of distributing food ingredients to support the fulfillment of children's nutritional needs in the form of eggs to the people of Cibanteng Village. Eggs were chosen because they are a source of protein that is easily available and affordable.

"With the implementation of the NUTRIGEN program, it is hoped that it will be able to educate the public in seeking to fulfill children's nutrition in order to create superior human resources for the progress of the nation," said Dr. Yulina. (*/Rz) (IAAS/MFR)
