IPB University Becomes Host of the ASEAN Higher Education Conference, Rector: Innovation is the Key to National Development

IPB University is trusted to host the ASEAN Higher Education Conference (AHEC) 2023 Webinar #9 Food Security and Sovereignty, (2/8). At that moment, the Chancellor of IPB University as one of the sources stated that innovation is the key to national development.

"IPB University really believes that innovation is the key to national development. IPB University will continue to collaborate to develop science and education in Indonesia. Not only in the agricultural aspect, but also globally in other fields of knowledge," he said.

He explained, currently IPB University has a Science Techno Park (STP), an area for downstream innovation. "As many as 35 per cent of IPB University's innovations have entered the downstream level. Some have entered industry and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). While IPB University developed some others," he added.

In addition, said Prof. Arif, there is an Agribusiness and Technology Park (ATP) which functions as a place for business and innovation by embracing farmers around the campus. Agricultural products produced at ATP will be distributed to various marketplaces in Jabodetabek. Thus, the farmers can have the maximum profit.

"Currently, our products have been marketed to 54 supermarkets in Jabodetabek. This shows that universities can empower and embrace the community, especially farmers, to participate in developing business and innovation," he said.

Besides that, IPB University also has a Botanical Veranda. This outlet is part of a business locomotive that is able to accommodate all business activities in the upstream area in an integrated and sustainable manner, especially on research results aimed at fostering a real entrepreneurial spirit for the academic community.

"Serambi Botani is a pioneer outlet that provides local products with natural and healthy concepts for the community. It is certain that the products available at the Serambi Botani outlet are natural, hygienic and free of harmful chemicals for the body," said Prof Arif.

AHEC is an international conference which is a forum for exchanging ideas between chancellors, lecturers and representatives of government and industry from countries in Southeast Asia/ASEAN. This conference aims to discuss collaborative strategic steps regarding the role of higher education among ASEAN countries.

"AHEC has an important role in overcoming global problems, including common problems, common goals, sharing resources and partnerships. Through this, transformation and sustainability will create a better future food system," said Prof Arif. (Ns/ Rz) (IAAS/MFR)
