The Advanced Research Laboratory Unit of IPB University conducted a halal training in the form of detecting pig DNA content in food products using Real Time PCR. The training activity was divided into two sessions, which were respectively held on August 9-10 and August 21-22. The training was also attended by participants from various regions.

The Advanced Research Laboratory (ARLab), also known as Unit Laboratorium Riset Unggulan, is a prominent laboratory owned by IPB University. This laboratory envisions becoming an internationally reputable advanced research facility in the fields of agriculture, marine science, and tropical biosciences.

Dr Irdika Mansur, MForSc, the Chairman of ARLab at IPB University, emphasized the strategic nature of this activity, given the increasing concern among the public with regards to the halal certification of products. He pointed out that this training is very important, especially considering that the majority of Indonesia’s population is Muslim.

In line with this, Sofyan SSi, MSi, the Vice Chairman of Facilities and Resources at ARLab, mentioned that in the coming future, they plan to incorporate RT-PCR detection into the scope of ISO-17025 certification. This certification is currently in the process of development at ARLab.

Meanwhile, Bambang Hermawan, SBio, MSi, the Chairman of the PLP at IPB University, mentioned that this initiative will ultimately provide a sense of comfort to the public when consuming food products.

ARLab at IPB University collaborated with PT. SCINCEWERKE and PT. GeneCraft as partners to showcase the latest technology related to the detection of pig content. Positive responses were received from the training participants. As a result, there is hope from the participants that ARLab at IPB University will continue to facilitate trainings involving other advanced technologies. (IAAS/ZRT)
