Your Pet’s Hair Drops? IPB University Students Give Solutions

Often hearing complaints of cat hair loss belonging to his friend, Digsen Afriadi, one of the IPB University students found the idea to make Tinolin, a trademark brand name supplement for preventing hair loss in pets. The idea that he got when he and his two colleagues, Sihabudin Asnawi and Zarifa Olivia, received the Lamb Fur Processing Innovation course at the IPB University Animal Husbandry Faculty.
"One of the knowledge I got in college, fleece contains compounds such as fat which can keep the fleece smooth and good. Then me and Zarifa at that time thought, why don't we try to take the fat and give it to pet animals who have problems with hair loss, dryness or even damage, "Digsen explained.
The compound in question is lanolin. According to Digsen, so far the utilization of fleece is still not much, there are even farmers who throw away and burn it. In fact, lanolin in sheep's fur can keep wool, hair and sheep skin in good condition, so lanolin is also useful for hair and also the skin of pets.
"To my knowledge, there are no supplement products for pets, only shampoo. The use of this supplement is very simple, just need to apply Tinolin to the part that we want to repair, "said Digsen.
Digsen emphasizes that all types of sheep can be used as feathers for supplements. Most importantly, to get lanolin, which requires a lot of fresh fleece. This means that it is processed immediately after being shaved so that the lanolin content is not lost. At least three days of sheared wool can still be used even though you will get less lanolin extract.
"Our goal is pet owners. We realize that maintaining pets such as cats, rabbits or dogs is very important to maintain the health of their hair. The hope is that Tinolin is able to answer and provide solutions to the health problems of pet hair that has fallen out, damaged or dry, "Digsen said.
Digsen and his two colleagues hope that his work which is the 2019 Student Creativity Program in Exact Research (PKM-PE) will bring Tinolin to the National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) event. Digsen and the team plan to introduce the PKM-PE product titled ‘Tinolin: This Pet Animal's Dry, Damaged and Loss Hair Supplements to pet owners so that what they have done can provide the benefits they deserve.
