Helping Parents Control Gadget Children, Students of IPB University Create the Application of the Friends of the Quran
Two IPB University students, Ajwar Anas (Department of Fisheries Resource Utilization) and Muhammad Fatahudin (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering) initiated the Application of the Friends of the Quran (Aplikasi Sahabat Quran). Companions of the Quran is a monitoring application to read the Koran on the gadgets of children aged elementary school (elementary school) to junior high school (SMP). This application has the main work as a lock gadget for children when the child has not performed prayer and read the Quran.
“What inspired us in making this application idea is the rise of school-age children who hold gadgets. One example is in the area where I live, where children who have graduated from elementary school come out of the Al Quran Education Center (TPA) because they are addicted to playing gadgets,” Fatahudin said.
Meanwhile, in his explanation Anas said that the application designed was used by two users. The first is the parent as the controller and the second is the child as the control media.
Parents have full access to manage all forms of assignments to read the Koran of children and practice other yaumiyah (daily). With this task reading Quran and other practices can be adjusted according to the activities and abilities of children. This application can also be useful as material for reviewing and evaluating children’s reading when parents and children come face to face.
“The monitoring of Islamic activities by parents, starting from prayer, reading the Qur’an, and other practices of the Yaumiyah can provide its own uniqueness for this application that distinguishes it from other Koran reading applications,” he explained.
Through their work, Anas and Fatahudin won 1st Place in the Islamic Paper Competition held 31 October – 03 November 2019 at Padang State University. This competition is one of the lively series of the Padang Islamic Fair State University, led by the Campus Spiritual Activity Unit. Anas and Fatahudin are a team among 16 finalists from all universities in Indonesia.
The Sahabat Quran application is still in the form of ideas which are also accompanied by prototype applications. In the future, the development of the application will try to be implemented. “For concrete steps, we will work closely with the Directorate of Student Affairs and Career Development to assist in funding, then collaborate with students from the Department of Computer Science IPB University as program makers of applications,” Fatahudin added.
They hope that the application of the Sahabat Quran can be realized and used by the wider community, both at national and international levels. “We hope that there are donors or sponsors to jointly create this application, the benefits of which can be obtained both in the world and in the hereafter. And the most important thing is we hope this application can be a solution for monitoring the use of children’s gadgets by parents. Especially in terms of reading the Quran and carrying out other services,” concluded Anas. (NR)
