The Scientific Oration of Expert of Herbal Medicine of Biopharmaca Research Center of IPB
One of the professor chair holders of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) will present her scientific oration at the auditorium of Andi Hakim Nasution Building, Dramaga Campus, Bogor, on Saturday, 31 January 2015. She is Prof.Dr.Dra. Dyah Iswantini, M.Sc.Agr. Prof. Dyah, the faculty member of the Department of Chemistry, who is currently also an expert for the formulation of herbal medicine of Biopharmaca Research Center (Biopharmaca) of the Institute of Research and Community Empowerment of IPB (LPPM – IPB).
Her scientific oration will be on "Pemanfaatan Biodiversitas Indonesia dalam Pengembangan Herbal Melalui Pendekatan Asai In Vitro, Kinetika Kimia dan Teknologi Biosensor sebagai Kontribusi dalam Peningkatan Kesehatan Masyarakat (the utilization of Indonesian biodiversity for herbal development through In-vitro assays approach, chemical Kinetics and biosensor technology as its contributions for Public Health improvement". In her planned oration, Prof. Dyah will describe the utilization of the Indonesian natural resources, especially its herbs, to improve public health.
"Scientific study on herbs as launched by the government are focused on four formulas of herbs for symptoms of hyperglycemia, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and hyperuricemia / gout. Our consent of medicinal research has been to develop anti gout (uric acid), anti-obesity and anti-hypertensive products, "she said during a Press Conference at the Meeting Room of the Directorate of Academic and Educational IPB, on 30 January 2015.
A series of her long studies had involved either upstream or downstream experts on high-quality efficacy of Indonesian herbal medicine for anti-gout, anti-obesity and anti-hypertensive which are exceed other drugs in general.
"Our anti-gout herbal product has been consumed by the public and has attracted the pharmaceutical industries to cooperate with for its future commercial production. Moreover, our anti-obesity and anti-hypertension products are highly demanded for commercial production by some pharmaceutical industries. If God blesses us, this year we will launch it, "she explained.
Our anti-obesity herbal medicine is proved able to reduce the weight by 11.22 percent during the 12 days (with normal diet condition). The product works by inhibiting the absorption of fat in the intestine.
Finally, our herbal antihypertensive has also high efficacy, it decreases rapidly for high blood pressure. MoU with PT. Indofarma and the Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) were established to produce the products. (Wied).
