Created the Fastest Detector for Hydration Status in the World

Harki Taufiqurrahman, a student of the Department of Community Nutrition, of the Faculty of Human Ecology of Bogor Agricultural University (FEMA IPB), created the world's first fastest hydration detector. Previously, there was no similar tool to detect hydration status directly and quickly. During this time, the hydration status is measured by the urine colour present in the urinal which is then compared with the colour level. But in fact, to know the actual hydration status is not easy like that. To get the correct hydration status, the urine that has been removed must be accommodated first then seen in the sun.

Harki under the superevision of Prof. Dr. Ir. Hardinsyah, MS, faculty member of the  Department of Community Nutrition, and Heriyanto Syafutra S.Si, M.Si, faculty member  of Physics IPB created a tool called "URITES". This tool can instantly detect a person's hydration status through their urine.

"Urites is the world's first innovative tool through the development of a urinal to detect hydration status quickly, precisely, and accurately. The Urinal is equipped with colour sensor programmed to detect the colour of urine  using colour sensor for reading programmed urine color using arduiono uno microcontroller. It takes only 3-5 seconds for urine to enter the urinal, hydration status can be detected  through the display screen contained in the urinal, "said Harki.

Harki with the team, namely Alvi Faidaturrosyida and R Endah Siti Maryam were selected to be the Indonesian delegation in Woman's invention exposition (KIWIE 2017) in South Korea in June.

Harki and the team presented their innovative work in front of the delegates of 24 countries. Their innovation was awarded the gold medal from KIWIE, in addition the team was also granted 3 other special awards, the Thai special award (gold medal), Lebanon special award (gold medal), and special award from Islamic Republic of Iran Ministry of Energy as Best invention. Currently, the tem have proposed the Intellectual Property Rights (HAK I) that their  tool will be granted its patent.

"It is expected that the innovative tool, will increase the awareness of self-hydration status so they can be protected from various diseases due to dehydration," he said. (Wied)
