Professor Chair Holders of IPB : the of Veterinarian is Very Demanded Profession in Job Market
Head of Veterinary Teaching Hospital (RSHP) of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Prof. Dr. Drh. Deni Noviana, will present his Scientific Oration of Professor Chair Holders of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) at Andi Hakim Nasoetion Auditorium, IPB Campus, Dramaga, Bogor, on Saturday (22/7). A pre-oratory scientific press conference was held at IPB Baranangsiang Campus, 20 July 2017. Prof. Deni his oration on "Pemanfaatan Teknologi Pencitraan dalam Diagnosis Penyakit Hewan dan Riset Pengembangan Biomaterial = The Utilization of Imaging Technology for the Diagnosis of Animal Disease and Research Biomaterial Development" or imaging technology for the diagnosis of animal diseases, similar to ultrasound and rotgen in humans, or MRI scanning technology applied to animals.
According to him, the level of gap between population of animals in the world with the population of veterinarians is still high. The population of dog ranked the 9th rank in the world's top 10 for largest animal population in the world, while the cat occupies the 3rd position. So the population of dogs and cats are very high. These are just the population of two animals, the other animals have yet been counted. Meanwhile, FKH in Indonesia there are only 11. "The establishment of only five, one of them IPB. Comparison of the number of vets with the number of dogs and cats is approximately 1 to 21 animals. This means that the profession of veterinarians is very popular in the market, "he said.
Radiographic examination (which utilizes imaging technology) is ranked thesecond. The imaging technology is divided into three specialties: x-ray radiography (rontgen), ultrasound scan, and endoscopy.
He said that in the last four years, medical records at RSHP FKH IPB showed the increased in the intensity uses of radiography diagnostic, ultrasound, and endoscopy significantly. The average increase is 55 percent per year. The most common cases of diseases with ultrasound in cats and dogs are hepatobiliary disease, cardiovascular system, and reproductive-urinary system disorders. The results of the examination using endoscopy showed the findings of foreign objects that are abnormal in the upper gastrointestinal tract.
The science and clinical skills of imaging technology are vital to the veterinary students. Division of Surgery and Radiology Department of Clinic, Reproduction and Pathology (KRP) of FKH IPB has developed various kinds of continuing professional education. There were 84 trainings with an average of 7-8 training per year for veterinarians and specialist doctors.
Meanwhile the role of imaging technology in the development of biomaterials in animals will be to assist the implantation process, to observe the implanting process in the animal body and post-implantation observation.
"Through collaboration with University Teknologi Malaysia and Laval University Canada, we have developed innovative bone degraded metal binder implants, magnesium and iron as well as a combination of metals and ceramics. The advantages of the new finding in this medical procedures, it commonly used in young patients which have bone fractures, "he explained.
The patient does not need to have a second surgery (for implant removal) because the implant material will be degraded and absorbed by the body system. Innovation of Prof. Deni's findings will applicable for human and animal bone implants. In addition to being registered for intellectual property protection (patent), this innovation is also awarded as Indonesia's most prospective innovation from Business Innovation Center in 2015.
