Nusantara 3-Autonomous Underwater Vehicle which is commonly called the N3-AUV is a prototype robot made by students of IPB University that is able to conduct underwater exploration programmed without remote. The Deep Learning method by applying artificial intelligence became an innovation that brought a team from the Department of Marine Science and Technology, the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (ITK FPIK), won 1st place in the National Engineering Research and Innovation Competition (LKTIN ERIC) at the State University Yogyakarta (UNY), Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), last September.
The team consisting of Yulianti Ratnasari, Nurhaliza Amalia Lestari and Syifa Afnani Santoso programmed the robot in advance to complete the desired mission. Prototype testing uses several methods such as navigation, acquisition and localization. This test already represents the ability of the prototype robot N3-AUV in the future.
“Testing the N3-AUV prototype is like passing through the goal without touching both sides (navigation), meeting or crashing into an object in the form of a stick (localization) and dropping the ball into the bucket (acquisition). All three tests have been able to pass the N3-AUV. This means that this robot can be used and developed further, “explained Yulianti, Head of the N3-AUV Team at the 2019 ERIC LKTIN event.
The N3-AUV prototype has been successfully programmed properly. Further development is still being done to perfect this robot to be able to explore the underwater world.
“The mission that can be carried out by N3-AUV if it has been successfully programmed perfectly is coral monitoring, fish identification and bathymetry mapping,” added Nurhaliza, a member of the N3-AUV team at the 2019 ERIC LKTIN event.
N3-AUV is a development of N1-AUV and N2-AUV. Previously, this robot design continued to be developed and included various competitions such as the Singapore AUV Challenge 2019 competition. Its intensive development was carried out by the Marine Instrumentation Telemetry and Robotics (MIT + R) Club, ITK FPIK, IPB University.
The advantages of N3-AUV to be able to win the champion because it has been through various tests and development. In addition, its development continues to show success. Thus, this prototype can be a great hope in the development of technology, especially in aspects of exploration of the underwater world. (Din / Zul)
