Ir Abdul Rahman Saleh, M.Sc: Librarian of IPB University Inaugurated as Main Expert Librarian
Ir Abdul Rahman Saleh, M.Sc, Librarian of IPB University was confirmed as the Main Expert Librarian at the Open Session by the Head of the National Library, Muhammad Syarif BandoIa. The Open Session for the inauguration of the Main Expert Librarian took place at the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia, Central Jakarta, Friday (11/10).
Abdul Rahman said the librarian is someone who gets an education in library science and works in the library. While the library itself is a unit that has the function to collect, process and disseminate information to its users. In addition, librarians must also ensure that the library user group uses the information quickly, precisely and correctly.
“Librarians in the sense of position consist of two groups namely Skill Librarians. Consists of three levels of positions namely Skilled Librarian, Advanced Librarian and Supervisor Librarian. The second group are Expert Level Librarians consisting of the Level of First Expert Librarian, Young Expert Librarian, Associate Expert Librarian and Main Expert Librarian, “he said.
He explained, to occupy the position of Main Expert Librarian needed quite heavy conditions. Someone must collect Credit Score (AK). The credit score is the value of each work that is charged to him and completed perfectly. Main Expert Librarians must collect a Credit Score of at least 850 over 2-5 years.
The duties of the librarian are tiered. For Main Expert Librarians, the task is to provide literature review services to high-level users such as professors, guiding users in understanding information literacy and others.
He added, tips on achieving the position of Main Expert Librarian were to work hard and work smart.
“I always focus on working according to my position and also always disciplined in gathering evidence of work results. Because when submitting promotions and positions examined by the assessment team, the suitability of the proposed work results with proof of work results. In addition, it must create a target of obtaining a Credit Score that must be achieved in the shortest amount of time. Increasing the writing is also very helpful in obtaining credit scores, “he said.
He asserted, becoming a Main Expert Librarian was actually not the main goal. The main goal is to provide the best service to library users so that library users are always helped in obtaining the information they need. Thus it can help expedite the user in achieving his goals. Like graduating into a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree.
Likewise if the user is a lecturer, the lecturer will be assisted in completing his tasks in teaching and conducting research. According to him, the challenges in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 for library services were increasingly severe.
“I as the librarian who bears the Main Expert Librarian is certainly responsible for improving the quality and competence of the librarians at IPB University so that they can also provide services as demanded by the current users. Many services that were previously unthinkable are now indispensable services such as assisting students in writing their final assignments so that they avoid plagiarism practices, “he added.
He hoped that library activities both technical (hard skill service) and thoughtful, in this case studies (soft skill services) could continue to receive support from IPB University. A lot of information in the library must be extracted and analyzed so that the information becomes mature and accepted by its users.
“For this reason, librarians are the spearhead for the success of a library in increasing public interest in reading. The presence of the library aims to increase public interest in reading. Therefore, if the interest in reading the public does not increase, then this is an indicator of a wrong policy towards the library in the country, “he said. (NR)
