Prof. Dr Suharsono Wins Innovation Award 2015 of West Java in the Field of Food

Prof.Dr Suharsono, Head of the Division of Plant Physiology and Genetics, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) received Innovation Award 2015 of West Java for the Food Sector. It is given for his dedication to innovation that has developed a potato cultivar called Jala Ipam for French Fries industry in Indonesia (http://news.ipb.ac.id/news/id/80589ec3a219e925b045a4f0e38bd818/demo-masak-kentang-french-fries-jala-ipam-ppshb-ip.html). The submission of trophies, certificates and award was conducted on August 19, 2015 in conjunction with the 70th Commemoration Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia in Bandung West Java by West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan, accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Dedy Mizwar. 

On the occasion, Prof. Suharsono also discussed with Regent of West Bandung, H. Abubakar and the Chairman of Parliament of West Bandung Regency, AA Umbara Sutisna for the future development of thepotato, particularly potatoes chips. The cultivation of potatoes for chips can involve small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the District. It was discussed after Prof. Suharsono and team had plans to release a new cultivar of chip potato in 2016. In principle, the West Bandung regency welcomes the idea of ??cooperation with IPB team. 

Currently, West Bandung Regency is the nursery location of Potato Cultivar Jala Ipam and several clones and other strains. In addition, West Bandung is also one of the locations for multi-site test and test of potato variation correctness, for the purpose of both the release of varieties and  protection (PVP). (Mtd)
