The Study Programme (Prodi) S1 Agribusiness, Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB University held a Mini Workshop on the Agribusiness Employee Challenge SC Curriculum (internship) in the framework of the implementation of the Merdeka Campus Competition Programme (PKKM) at Grand Savero Hotel, Bogor, recently. The theme of the workshop was 'Synergising the Competencies of S1 Agribusiness Graduates with Industry Needs through Internship Activities'.

One of the objectives of the workshop was to help accelerate on-time graduation with a shorter waiting period for employment. The event was attended by four competent speakers in their fields, namely Dr Ferry Priyadi Yastono as Vice President (VP) of Human Resources Strategic Services (HR) of PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (RNI), Ali Chandra as Assistant Operations Manager of Sungai Budi Group, Freddy Reynaldo as Corporate Engagement of PT East West Seed Indonesia and Dr (HC) Muhammad Gunung Soetopo as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sabila Farm.

"The Agribusiness Employee Challenge focuses on explaining the concept of the S1 Agribusiness Study Programme internship in the framework of PKKM based on the perspective of the campus and the business world industry (DUDI) partners. In this activity, a joint mapping of internship activities is also carried out, including the main duties and functions as well as the rights and obligations of students during the internship," said Dr Bayu Krisnamurthi, IPB University lecturer from the Department of Agribusiness.

In this workshop, students will be placed in leading companies in the agribusiness sector, such as sugar companies, tapioca industries and vegetable seeds. They will be involved in various activities and receive hands-on training from professionals in the industry.

"The Agribusiness Employee Challenge Mini Curriculum Workshop provides a valuable opportunity for students to develop their potential in the agribusiness industry. Through this internship programme, we hope to produce young people who are ready to face challenges and make a real contribution in advancing the agribusiness sector in Indonesia," he said.

Dr Bayu Krisnamurthi also emphasised the importance of developing a strong business mindset. Students will be taught to understand that all activities carried out in the company must produce added value and have an impact on the company's revenue and costs. "They will learn to see business realistically and develop critical thinking related to financial aspects in the context of agribusiness," he said.

In addition, said Dr Bayu, students will also be involved in activities that demand precision and comprehensive details. They will be taught to be sensitive to important details and follow strict operational standards as well as understand the importance of maintaining quality in every aspect of work in the agribusiness industry.
"This internship programme also emphasises the importance of building good relationships with others. Students learn how to interact with various parties in the company, including co-workers, management and farmers. The ability to communicate and understand the needs of others is a very important skill in this industry," he added.

During the internship, students will face various challenges in the production process in the agribusiness industry. They will be taught to use critical thinking to define problems and formulate effective solutions. A humble attitude, appreciation of the company's efforts in overcoming problems and the ability to contribute positively are emphasised in this programme.

"In addition, students are also trained in strong storytelling skills. They learn to communicate their experiences and learnings through photos, videos and other digital media. However, it is important to note that company information must be released with the appropriate permissions, so that the integrity of the company is maintained," he said.

In this internship programme, students are also expected to achieve 80 per cent of the learning required to understand the agribusiness industry. They are expected to have an in-depth understanding of the business, the necessary technical skills, and the ability to think critically and analytically in solving problems.

Meanwhile, Dr Ferry Priyadi Yustono conveyed the importance of preparing employees who are honest, trustworthy, committed, have problem solving skills, and respect others. "PT RNI as a food holding company that has subsidiaries and sugar companies in Yogyakarta is ready to support initiatives such as the Agribusiness Employee Challenge Mini Curriculum Workshop," he concluded.
