In order to enhance the quality of education and research on a global level, the Education and Cultural Attaché (Atdikbud) of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Canberra is pushing for and facilitating a collaboration between the Graduate Program in Management of IPB University and Macquarie Business School in Australia.

This was conveyed by Atdikbud of the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, Prof Mukhamad Najib during the support and assistance provided to the delegation team from IPB University’s Department of Management on their visit to Macquarie Business School at Macquarie University, Australia on Tuesday (14/6).

During the visit, the delegation from the Graduate Program in Management of IPB University was received by Prof Steven Grover, the Head of the Department of Management at Macquarie University, along with Prof Robert Jack, who serves as the Course Director for The Master of Management, and Dr Salut Muhidin, a Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University.

Meanwhile, the delegation team from IPB University consisted of Dr Eko Ruddy Cahyadi, the Head of the Graduate Program in Management, accompanied by Prof Ma’mun Sarma, Dr. Budi Purwanto, Dr Anggraeni Sukmawati, and Hardiyana Widyastuti, SHut, MM.

In his introductory remarks during the visit, Atdikbud of the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, Prof Mukhamad Najib, expressed his full support for the collaboration initiative between IPB University and Macquarie University. He emphasized that the Indonesian Government is encouraging universities in Indonesia to enhance the quality of teaching and research through collaborations with top universities worldwide.

Prof Najib also outlined several programs that can be utilized, such as the World Class Professor program, Double Degree programs for master’s programs, and international mobility programs for students and lecturers.

“Macquarie Business School is ranked among the top 100 universities in the world according to the QS World University Rankings. Macquarie also holds the prestigious AACSB accreditation for business and management. Therefore, it is highly appropriate for IPB University, particularly the Department of Management, to collaborate with the Department of Management at Macquarie University,” he explained.

Responding to Atdikbud’s remarks, Prof Steven expressed that international collaborations should indeed be pursued as they would benefit both parties, particularly the students.

“Currently, the Department of Management at Macquarie has numerous international partners. However, collaboration with Indonesia still needs to be strengthened. Therefore, we warmly welcome the Department of Management from IPB University, especially for educational collaborations in the master’s programs,” stated Prof. Steven.

Dr Eko Ruddy Cahyadi further elaborated on the needs of his institution and the potential collaborations that can be developed. According to Dr. Eko, the Graduate Program in Management of IPB University has already established international collaborations with several universities in Asia and Europe, such as KU Leuven in Belgium. However, there has been no collaboration with universities in Australia yet.

“Australia is geographically close, and many Indonesian students are interested in studying there. Therefore, we aim to develop educational and research collaborations with the Department of Management at Macquarie University. With Macquarie’s global reputation, we believe this collaboration will benefit our study programs as well as our students,” explained Dr Eko.

The outcomes of the visit by IPB University’s Department of Management to Macquarie University will soon be followed up with several concrete agendas. One of them is inviting Macquarie lecturers to give lectures at IPB University.

“We also invite Macquarie students to participate in the Summer Course on Sustainable Agrifood Management organized by the Department of Management at IPB University, as well as to discuss curriculum mapping between the Department of Management at IPB University and Macquarie University,” concluded Dr Eko.
