Landscape Architecture Study Program Students Hold EXPOSE, Study Five Blue Open Spaces Around IPB University
Management and management of blue open spaces (RTB) as an act of maintaining environmental quality has not been carried out optimally. Management that has not been maximized causes RTB to be neglected and less useful for the community.
In response to this, recently IPB University Landscape Architecture Study Program students held a hybrid ‘EXPOSE 2023: Green Campus-Water Friendly Campus’ which took place at the Toyib Hadiwijaya Auditorium, Dramaga Campus and Zoom Meeting.
Carrying the tagline ‘For Better, Productive and Sustainable Blue Open Spaces’, students presented a study of five RTBs around IPB University. There are three RTBs on campus, namely Lake SGDs, Lake LSI and Telaga Inspiration. Meanwhile, two other RTBs are outside the campus, namely Situ Gede and Situ Burung.
“This study is the output of the Landscape Management practicum course. The preparation of the RTB landscape management strategy lasted for seven weeks,” said the Chief Executive of EXPOSE 2023, Rahmadilla Putri Antoni.
Rahmadilla explained, first of all the students made an inventory by going directly to the field to see the condition of the lake and lakes.
“Furthermore, we analyze, synthesize, then make management recommendations. We publish this study using four media, namely PowerPoint, videos, posters and reports in the form of recommended articles,” she said.
The results of the study containing information regarding potentials, problems and management recommendations are provided to relevant stakeholders. The hope is that the five RTBs can be developed and managed in an integrated manner.
Landscape Management Course Coordinator, Prof. Hadi Susilo Arifin explained, EXPOSE is an annual activity carried out by IPB University students from the Landscape Architecture Study Program. He emphasized that this activity was held as a real student action in order to realize IPB University as a water-friendly campus.
“Water is the source of life. We want to provide students and the public with an understanding of how important aquatic ecosystems are in human life. Aside from the domestic side, water can be a place for preserving biodiversity,” he said.
Prof. Hadi added, this activity was also carried out as an effort by students to prove the IPB University Campus as the 2020 Green Campus.
“IPB University has been named the Green Campus since 2020. Now, Landscape Architecture students are challenged to prove this claim. There are three principles in realizing the Green Campus concept, namely saving land, saving material and saving energy (3S). These three are not only supported by the green open space (RTH) ecosystem, but also RTB. These two landscapes must be harmonious,” he concluded. (Igno/Rz) (IAAS/AMR)
