Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini Awards Outstanding Service to IPB University

Dr (HC) Tri Rismaharini, Minister of Social Affairs (Minister of Social Affairs) RI gave the award of Outstanding Service to IPB University. The award was given to coincide with the Multistrata Phase V Graduation procession at Graha Widya Wisuda, Darmaga Campus of IPB, (17/5).

This award is a proof of IPB University that has shown real and extraordinary for the better life of the nation's citizens and a more advanced Indonesia.

Risma said that in carrying out her duties at the Ministry of Social Affairs, she was greatly assisted by experts from IPB University. With the help of professors from IPB University, the Sarmi region, Papua, which initially never planted rice, corn and fruits, has now started planting. "They are also educated on how to plant them," she said. 

Not only that, Risma said the problem of cheap onions that resulted in farmers losing money could be resolved within three months with the help of technology from IPB University. Also the problem of fuel in the interior of oil palm plantations in East Aceh, with the solution of palm waste fuel stoves.

"The science and technology produced by IPB University really helps us in the field, especially to alleviate poverty," she added.

In addition to the award to IPB University as an institution, the Minister also gave awards to 41 academicians and alumni of IPB University. The awards were given for their work and role in advancing agriculture in a broad sense.

Risma also gave awards to 11 IPB University leaders for leadership in social welfare based on agriculture, marine and tropical biosciences.

Responding to this award, Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif said, it was an honour for IPB University for the Extraordinary Service Award given by the Minister of Social Affairs. He claimed to be proud and made this award a trigger for the spirit of the IPB University academic community to work even more.

"The work of IPB University lecturers is always focused on developing science that has a big impact. On the one hand, we must master high technology, on the other hand, we must also realise the impact on industry and society," he added.

Prof Arif revealed, until now IPB University has been present in 4,200 villages in Indonesia through various innovations. That figure reaches 5.7 per cent of all villages in Indonesia. 

"Alhamdulillah, IPB University lecturers also have the same concern and vision that impact is important, bringing benefits is very meaningful. Hopefully the presence of the Ministry of Social Affairs will further motivate IPB University to be productive in the community," he said.

On the occasion of the graduation, the Minister also delivered a short oration entitled Improving Social Welfare through the Development of Agriculture, Marine and Tropical Biosciences. (dh/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
