For the first time, PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI) together with the Department of Resource and Environmental Economics (ESL) Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB University conducted a direct visitation to Cibanteng Village, Ciampea District, Bogor Regency, West Java. Cibanteng Village is the target of the Low Carbon Village program, a community-based development program to create a Climate Responsive Village.

The Head of the ESL Department, Dr Ahyar Ismail expressed his gratitude to PT SMI for still trusting him as a cooperation partner. “In this period, hopefully it can provide benefits and development of Cibanteng Village which has potential so it needs to be developed,” he said.

Ramona Harimurti, Head of the PT SMI Secretariat Division welcomed the Low Carbon Village program initiated by the ESL Department and Cibanteng Village. On that occasion, she also presented a brief profile of PT SMI which is a non-bank financial institution under the auspices of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia.

“Previously our program was Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). But now it has changed to Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL). Since its establishment in 2009, PT SMI has carried out quite a number of activities. Of course, we will continue to optimize it. This TJSL regulation will not work without cooperating with the environment or the surrounding community,” she added.

Meanwhile, the activity coordinator and Secretary of the ESL Department, Dr Meti Ekayani felt that her party was very helpful. The reason is, this activity also supports the Freedom of Learning – Independence Campus (MBKM) program.

“This development program is a medium for the village program around the campus, which is one of the efforts to downstream innovations at IPB University. Of course this can be useful, especially for the community around the campus,” said Dr Meti.

According to her, the main problem in Cibanteng Village is garbage. The difficulty of accessing garbage trucks to Kampung Kebon Kopi makes residents throw garbage into rivers or irrigation canals. “This is a complex problem. Therefore, we encourage residents to carry out low-carbon activities in the village,” she said.

Dr Meti also added that there were five programs implemented, such as managing organic and inorganic waste, urban farming, fish farming in irrigation canals and the initiation of the Green Cibanteng Tourism Village. In addition to support from PT SMI, this activity can be carried out with the role of community involvement students. “So that these activities can provide economic value to residents,” she added.

Warso, SSos, MM as the Head of Cibanteng Village said that Kampung Kebon Kopi no longer lives up to its name. The reason is, many coffee trees have been cut down. However, currently residents are taking the initiative to replant coffee trees around their yard, one of which was carried out by Andi Rohman Kurniadi with the Sanggabuana Coffee House. This step is of course to restore the name of the kebon kopi as before. (Ang/Rz) (IAAS/DSR)
