Dosen Mengabdi IPB University Gives a Socialization to The Dairy Farm Centre in Kebon Pedes Village.
IPB university sent few of its lecturers to serve various regions in Indonesia through Dosen Mengabdi Program. This program is aimed for the implementation of science and technology for the nation’s welfare.
This time, Dosen Mengabdi program was held in Kebon Pedes Village, which is the centre of dairy farming in Bogor City. The lecturers tried to help the farmers in solving the most common problems related to the milking health and online marketing. This activity was held in Ar-Rohman Mosque, Kebon Pedes Village, Bogor City (11/12) which was attended by 22 dairy farmers and Bogor City Agriculture Officers.
The lecturer team was consisted of three lecturers, they are; (1) Dr. drh Herwin Pisestyani, MSi, she is the lecturer of Veterinary Public Health Division, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH). (2) Dr Ma’mun Sarma, MS, MEc, she is the lecturer of Management Department, Faculty of Economy and Management. (3) Dr Yeti Lis Purnamadewi, MSc.Agr, sheis the lecturer of Economic Science, Faculty of Economy and Management.
Dr. Herwin Pisestyani explained that the most important thing that must be done by the dairy farmers is giving the best to the society, one of them is by providing safe, halal, and hygienic cow milk.
“There are several factors that affects the health of udder cows, which are; caring techniques, the cow’s feed, genetic, age, size of the farm, milking techniques, and milking hygiene. A healthy udder will make milk production higher.” she said.
According to her, the high amount of microorganism in milk is largely due to the cage’s sanitary and unclean dairy equipment. By knowing hygienic the right and hygienic milking technique, hopefully it can produce milk with high quality as well as can be safely consumed for all consumers, especially children.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ma’mun Sarma and Dr. Yeti Lis Purnamadewi delivered a material about online marketing management.
According to Dr. Ma’mun Sarma, selling milk thtough online media have many advantages because we can sell it in 24 hours without having the urge to close the store. Seeing that online media has improved significantly these days, hopefully people will get bigger incomes by selling milk through online media.
Aside from that, Dr. Yeti also said that one of the ways to increase the selling value of milk is by marketing it togetherly with Koperasi.
“Koperasi is not a Micro, Small, and Medium Entreprises (UMKM), but a platform for UMKM to collaborate in order to achieve common goals, which is the welfare of dairy farmers.” she said.
Besides those three lecturers, there was another speaker who also attend the socialization, drh M Ikhsan who has experiences in online marketing. He has a background as a veteriner of IPB University and experiencing in marketing medicines through online media.
“I suggest the dairy farmers to make dairy products that can extend the milk endurance. The long lasting dairy products are easier to sell than the fresh ones.“ he said.
All the speakers are hoped that through this program, the dairy farming business in Kebon pedes Village can be more developed and reach larger markets.
Responding to to this program, Eky, the representative of dairy darmers said that this program gave more ideas and hopes to all the dairy farmers to develop the milk quality based on standard. Hence, the milk produced can be accepted by large companies in the future. This is an awaited opportunity and hope for the community, because the beginning of dairy farming in Kebon Pedes was a family business from generation to generation.
“So far, the only parties that have met the farmers are students. But today, we are very happy because the lecturers of IPB University came here to visit us and shared knowledges in order to solve the problems here. Through Dosen Mengabdi program, hopefully there will be continued collaborations between IPB University, dairy farmers, and the agriculture officers so it can increase the people’s welfare into a better one, especially the dairy farmers in Kebon Pedes Village,” he added.
