IPB University Students Attend International Research Presentations in Thailand
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) IPB University sent two Biology Department students and one Physics Department student to attend international research presentations in Thailand.
Through the 2019 International Exchange Students (KUEX), Aldilas Fauzan Rizqi, Juniarto Gautama and Mohamad Herlin Idris had the opportunity to conduct research activities for four months at the Faculty of Science, Kasetsart University (KU) Thailand which became the thesis topic of the students. This student research activity is under the guidance of the staff of the Department of Biology and Physics with staff at the Faculty of Science KU. FMIPA IPB University has sent representatives to attend international research presentations in the framework of this KUEX since 2015.
Aldilas was guided by Ir Tri Heru Widarto, MSi, IPB University lecturer and Dr. Vasakorn Bullangpoi from the Department of Zoology of KU. Gautama was mentored by Dr. Miftahudin, MSi, IPB University lecturer and Prof. Dr. Supachai Vuttingpongchaikij from the Department of Genetics of KU and Herlin was guided by Dr. Yessie Widya Sari and Dr. Mersi Kurniati and Dr. rer nat Decha Dechtrirat from the Department of Materials Science KU. Credit learning is obtained in addition to research also seminars. In addition they also get the opportunity to study Thai language and culture courses.
The Research Presentation of Kasetsart University International Student Exchange 2019 was held on November 21, 2019. The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Science Associate Professor Dr. Apisit Songsasen who attended the entire seminar.
The activity was also attended by representatives from each tertiary institution from the participant. The Department of Biology FMIPA IPB University was represented by Dr. Rika Raffiudin and the Department of Physics FMIPA IPB University was represented by Dr. Yessie Widya Sari and Nur Aisyah Nuzulia, MSi.
On this occasion, all KUEX 2019 participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, China and Vietnam explained the results of their research for 7-10 minutes. The team of IPB University students successfully presented their research very well.
Aldilas and Juniarto each conducted research on the topic ‘Toxicity of Senna Siamea Leaf Extract Against Spodoptera Litura and Transformation of JHN Rice Call with CRISPR / Cas9 Constructs to Edit The Yield-related Genes. While Herlin conducted Synthesis and Characterization of Granular Activated Carbon Beads Based on Alginate and Alginate / Carboxymethyl Cellulose Blends.
To strengthen education and research collaboration in the ASEAN region, the next agenda “Triangle Collaboration Meeting” between Kasetsart University (KU), IPB University and Putra Putra University (UPM), Malaysia. In this activity, it was discussed collaboration activities in the form of student exchange with credit earning for one semester, lecturer exchange as a thesis / dissertation examiner, as well as collaborative research, joint mentoring for student final assignments and joint degrees.
Kick off triangle collaboration will be conducted in the form of organizing the 1st International Conference on Fundamental (and including Applied) Sciences in the first week of August 2020 and KU was agreed as the first host. The detailed discussion of the collaboration will be continued when the Dean of the Faculty of Science arrives to IPIPA IPB which is planned around early 2020. (NR)
