IPB University Students Discuss Resource and Environmental Economics Issues at JSAREE

The issue of agriculture, resources and environment succeeded in bringing students of the Department of Resource and Environmental Economics FEM IPB to be presenters at The 2nd JSAREE event at the Faculty of Agriculture, Putra Malaysia University (UPM) recently.

This event is the result of collaboration between the Department of Resource and Environmental Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB University with UPM Faculty of Agriculture.

JSAREE participants are active undergraduate and graduate students and related lecturers as judges.  The 2nd JSAREE participants came from countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Syria and Ghana.

The meaning of participation in this activity is to increase the knowledge, competencies, and experience of all participants in understanding agriculture, resources, and the environment through an economic perspective.

The 2nd JSAREE activity has a theme about economics in agriculture, resources, and the environment.  “The series of events is a seminar on agriculture, resources, and the environment in an economic perspective that involves students as presenters of scientific papers and posters,” said Muhammad Saddam as one of the participants.

All participants were given the opportunity to discuss economic research that reflects the conditions of global problems and global leadership to realize the ideals of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  Some of the research discussed is food security, sustainable agriculture, the tourism economy, sustainable marine affairs, climate change, waste management, disaster management, renewable energy.

The 2nd JSAREE program began with an opening and a prayer followed by a presentation by the main speaker, Prof. Dr. Yusman Syaukat, FEM IPB University Lecturer.

Saddam added that in addition to the presentation of papers and posters, some of the participants also held a colloquium at the event.  Students who carry out colloquia are final year students who have received guidance from related lecturers.  Some students who successfully presented their colloquia were Rizki Utami, Hashifah, Angie, Eryana, Nisrina, Nuraeni, Livie.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the ESL Department, Dr. Meti Ekayani as the chief executive explained that this activity is very important to carry out, because it can add experience, increase knowledge and insight for academics in agriculture, resources, and the environment which are focused on advancing the Nation’s economy.

This activity is expected to have an impact on IPB University considering that the collaboration between IPB University and UPM has a very positive impact in the academic field.  For participants and lecturers of the ESL Department, this event is the second experience in conducting a seminar like this.  Going forward, the event is expected to be an ongoing agenda and be able to expand cooperation with universities in other countries.  (tbsp / RA)
