Serdang Bedagai Regency Government Together with LPPM IPB University Declared 3 SPR
Regent of Serdang Bedagai (Sergai) Ir. H. Soekirman attended the Declaration of the People’s Animal Husbandry School (SPR), which was held at the Pantai Park Resort Theme Park, Pantai Cermin District, Thursday (10/17). On this occasion, the Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM) of IPB University, represented by Prof. Sugeng Heri Suseno said that after the SPR Declaration the breeders who joined the SPR had become part of the IPB University family.
“There are three SPR declared. We are ready 24 hours to assist the breeders in SPR. It is hoped that IPB University can provide innovations to be submitted to farmers and can be applied so that farmers will feel the results of the innovations that IPB University has, “he said.
For this reason, the SPR program was held, in addition to controlling the imbalance between supply and demand for meat consumption, this program also aims to improve the knowledge and skills of Indonesian farmers.
In his remarks, Soekirman said that the high demand and demand for animal protein products was not matched by the production of livestock, especially cattle. Based on the Sergai Regent’s decision No. 346/520 / THN 2016 dated 12 October 2016, 3 SPRs have been established, namely in the Dolok Masihul, Sipispis and Pegajahan areas.
Sergai Regency currently has a population of ± 44,000 cattle. Ideally in Sergai District, 10-15 SPRs can be formed according to the distribution of livestock populations in each district.
“On this occasion, I would like to thank LPPM IPB University who have attended and provided training and assistance to the livestock groups that joined the SPR. Hopefully with this SPR, Sergai Regency can increase livestock population and the competitiveness of the people’s livestock business so as to realize smart breeders, quality livestock and increased meat production to achieve self-sufficiency in meat in 2026, “said Regent Soekirman.
At the same event, the Head of the Food Security Office (Ketapang) M. Aliuddin SP, MP, in his report to the Regent, said if this activity was based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sergai Regency Government and IPB University. The collaboration was followed up by the Ketapang Sergai Service by forming 3 Animal Husbandry Representative Groups (GPPT) at the community farm centers on October 12, 2016.
“With this declaration, it is hoped that the SPR can continue to contribute to the development and improvement of human resources for the farming community,” he said.
In this declaration event, the inauguration of the three SPR groups was carried out by Prof. Dr. Muladno as the head of the SPR Team of LPPM IPB University and continued with the ratification of the formation of the SPR signed by the Regent of Serdang Bedagai Regency. The three SPR groups inaugurated are “Satu Hati” SPR Dolok Masihul District, SPR “Forward Together” Sipispis District and SPR “Lumbung Ternak” Pegajahan District.
Prof. Muladno explained that SPR activities in an area can be developed for a maximum of four years until the breeder reaches one of the SPR activity objectives. That is to realize the independence and sovereignty of the people who are collectively congregating in congregation. There are various science and technology taught at SPR including business management, technical cultivation, sociology and environment, and institutional systems. (NR)
