IPB Graduates were Encouraged to Generate the Standardized Innovation

Rector of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Prof.Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto, together with Head of National Standardization Agency (BSN), Prof.Dr. Bambang Prasetya, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Friday (12/6) in Campus of IPB Dramaga Bogor. The event was then followed by a public lecture of “Peran Standardisasi dan Penilaian Kesesuaian untuk Meningkatkan Daya Saing Menghadapi MEA dan Pasar Global / Role of Standardization and Conformity Assessment to Enhance the Competitiveness to Face MEA and Global Market” by the Head of BSN.
The Rector of IPB, Prof.Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto, said, in recent years IPB inflamed the spirit of entrepreneurship. Therefore, the graduates should be educated to be tough entrepreneurs in the field of agriculture, which produced food as well as competent and well products associated with the creativity and the standardized innovation.
The Head of BSN, Prof.Dr. Bambang Prasetya, conveyed the importance of the role model in building all lines especially education. “The most important is the mental improvement starting from the education. Building the Indonesian human mental fully through education must also have the support of all parties to achieve the aspired result,” he said.
Welcoming the Economic Community of ASEAN (MEA) 2015, BSN encouraged the distribution of Conformity Assessment Board (LPK) throughout Indonesia. Moreover, BSN tried to multiply the successful profile of industrial model to implement a quality system with the hope to be the example and motivation for other industries as well as to see and show differences between industries which had not and which once fostered by the government.
According to him, a very big challenge in this era of globalization was encouraging the industry to apply the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). With the enactment of MEA, the people in the environment of ASEAN could conduct the trade transaction both goods and services freely. This situation would require the Indonesian nation to have a strong competitiveness.
“With the application of standardization and conformity assessment, it is expected to be able to improve the quality assurance, the production efficiency, the national competitiveness, the fair competition and transparency in trade, the business certainty, and the capability of business actor, as well as the technological innovation capability. How to produce a quality product with a short time and as efficiently as possible without compromising the environment, profit, and community, is highly determined by standardization or certification," he added.
