IPB AND GOVERNMENT OF GARUT REGENCY SIGN A COOPERATION AGREEMENT

Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) and the Government of Garut Regency has signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation, which coincided with the closing of the Jamboree for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) of Horticulture at the Social Service Building, Cisurupan District, Garut Regency on 22 to 24 November 2010. The event was held in cooperation of Director General of Horticulture, Ministry of Agriculture, Indonesian Association of IPM Farmers (IPPHTI), Agriculture Office of Garut Regency, and Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) with the main sponsor of AGSI (major manufacturer of Fitplanta and Actigrow, which are the results of research by IPB lecturers at the Plant Clinics of Department of Plant Protection), and attended around 600 horticultural farmers throughout the region of Garut Regency.

    The team of IPB was led by Dr. Ir. Miftah Anas Fauzi, Vice-Rector for Research and Cooperation (WRRK), accompanied by Dr. Ir. Prastowo, Vice Chairman of LPPM IPB, and some lecturers of the Department of Plant Protection (Dr. Ir. Hermanu Triwidodo, Dr. Ir. Widodo, Dr. Ir. Suryo Wiyono, Dr. Ir. Swastiko Priyambodo, and Ir. Titiek Siti Yuliani, SU.). They traveled to Garut in the car of the Integrated Plant Clinics, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB.

    The Jamboree of Horticulture IPM consisted of consultations on the problems of pest and diseases on horticultural crops between Garut farmers and the Plant Clinic, Faculty of Agriculture of IPB, horticultural quiz (oral question-and-answer contest) for inter-district farmers, and a dialogue between horticultural farmers and  the Director General of Horticulture, Agricultural Services of Garut Regency, Agricultural Services of West Java Province, and lecturers of IPB who were represented by Dr. Ir. Widodo.

    With the signing of the cooperation agreement, several departments in IPB can follow it up with some research activities and community services, primarily related to horticulture, plantation, animal husbandry, and forestry, which are the main resources (of agribusiness) in Garut Regency (mtd).
