IPB holds a Traditional Sports Contest

Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) held a Traditional Sports Contest, in which 3000 students of the First Year Common Preparation (TPB) partcipated, Saturday (6 / 11) on the field in front of Andi Nasoetion Rectorate Building, Darmaga Campus of IPB.

"I appreciate this activity as in addition to preserving the traditional sports, we hope it can increase the students’ spirit and sportsmanship," said the Rector of IPB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Herry Suhardiyanto at the contest opening ceremony. He also appreciated the bicycle show as along with the contest. "It is an effort to encourage the academic communities of IPB to use bicycles as a healthy alternative of land transportation that keeps the clean air in the environment as well," continued the Rector.

A similar view was also expressed by the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs of IPB, Prof. Dr. Yonny Koesmaryono in his speech. "An event like this should be held regularly to preserve the treasures of cultural heritage, particularly traditional sports. The contest is expected to improve the health and togetherness of students," said Prof. Yonny.
The contest involved various traditional sports such as hurdle running, medicine ball, the spirit of relay, long sandals, fun bike, decorated bikes, single relay bicycle, tandem bicycle relay, tug of war, pillow hitting, and traditional archery.

Prof. Yonny, together with the Executive Secretary of IPB Rector, Dr. P.W Bonny Sukarno, Director of Student Affairs IPB, Dr. Rimbawan, staff of Public Relations and Protocol Abdillah and Jumiko Fitri K and Assistant Deputy of Sports Division, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Republic of Indonesia, Bambang Laksono tried the contest of long wooden sandals and archery.
