IPB students who are members of the Regional Student Organization (Omda) filled up the Andi Hakim Nasoetion Auditorium, Darmaga Campus of IPB, Saturday (23/10) for a promotion briefing to become Promoting Representatives of Omda IPB. The briefing materials were presented by the Head of TPB Student Dormitory, Dr. Ir. Irmansyah, M. Si and Head of Public Relations and Protocol IPB, Ir. Henny Windari, M.Sc.

Omda is a student organization united by a common regional origin. "Its existence is very helpful to High Schools (SMA), especially in sharing information about IPB, as well as expanding IPB’s network of promoting among high school students. In addition, Omda is much needed, for example in case of natural disaster on a region it takes an important role in providing information," said Waladan Mardijja, the Chairman of the Briefing Committee in his speech.

Waladan added that Omdas in IPB have experienced ups and downs and in 2001 they were not effective when they were built into a unified Omda. Then since 2005, Omdas in IPB have been growing; initially there were 45 Omdas and now they have risen to 100 Omdas.

He also said that IPB is only to facilitate Omda by providing briefing on how to be a good Promoting Representative as IPB does not yet have special fund for the development of Omdas.

Dr. Ir. Irmansyah talked about the dormitory life to which the new students of IPB must adapt for one year. According to him, by living in the dorm, IPB students coming from the whole archipelago can learn to know each other and socialize so that the customs and cultural differences can defuse one another. "With four students sharing one room, they are required to be able to tolerate with the advantages and disadvantages of their roommates. In addition, with this living system, the students’ empathy will improve and this will be very beneficial for them in the academic life at IPB," he said.

Meanwhile, Ir. Henny, M.Sc., gave some tips and suggestions for the promotion in the region that must be considered by an Omda as a Promotion Representative of IPB. I hope you, the students as members of Omda and volunteers could promote IPB well in each of your regions and maintain the good reputation of IPB to the society," she said. (mtd)
