Open House of English Development Unit of Bogor Agricultural University

The start of  Open House of  Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) for  Language of Bogor Agricultural University, as part of series of program for  47th Bogor Agricultural University Anniversary, was enlivened by the performance of the Barongsai Dance from  Golden Lion Club, Bogor. Through the mouth of the dragon, the Vice Rector for Resources and Development of Bogor Agricultural University,  Prof.Dr. Herman Siregar, took a similar tool that is used to hit the gong, as a sign of the Official Opening for the 2010 Open House of the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) for  Language.

"The Executive Boards of Bogor Agricultural University strongly support  the existence of Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) for  Language as a Unit that provides language training r Bogor Agricultural University communties. Every student of Bogor Agricultural University,  both the Undergraduate or Diploma Programs, should mastering those languages well. By mastering the foreing languages, they will find better opportunities to get scholarship to pursue their studies abroad. Similarly, for Student Exchange Programs,  students will get more chances to go abroad," explained Prof. Herman.

Further, Prof. Herman expresssed, that one of the competitiveness among students is their foreign languages proviciences. Therefore, university graduates should mastering one of the international  languages as a value-added assest. Therefore language is utilized as a medium of communication, trade and investment media.

Previously Head of Unit Language IPB Prof.Dr. Hashim Bintoro informed that this language center provides  7 (seven) language courses and open for public. Those languages are:  English, Japanese, German, French, Mandarin, Korean and Arabic. "In the future,  IPB students of Bogor Agricultural University are expected  to speak  at least two languages, namely English as a compulsory language, and another cognitive language.  However, the University does not intend to strive alone, it plans to cooperate with high schools," expressed  Prof. Bintoro to the  visitors, who mostly high school princciples and teachers of  high schools in Bogor.

Prof. Bintoro  expected, that the Open House will promote and show to public that in addition to be learning center for agricultural sciences, Bogor Agricultural University is also  conducting  language courses.

The Open House which took place at the corridor of the Library where  students performed  Korean and Japanese  songs and dances to celebrate this occassion. In this event, the Organizing Comittee exhibited language information booths, international culinaires, souvenirs and other other items, photos of Japanese and Korean traditional clothes, cost play, Bon Odori and Ikebana. In the diofferent areas, the Open House also held a TOEFL Prediction, Karaoke of Foreign sonngs,  Free Courses, and Foreign Film performance. (Wied)
