Pinapple Pen is the name of a product produced by Student Creativity Program of Karsa Cipta (PKM-KC) which was pioneered by a group of students of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bogor Agricultural University (FKH-IPB). The group consisted of Farandy Insan Sejati, Akhmat Setya Bakti, Risqika Akla Velayati, and Bagas Aris Priyono. Pinapple Pen itself is an acronym of Innovative Smart Plaster, Efficient and Applicative with Healing Wound Detector. The advantage of the tape is, for physician who will check the wound of patient, it is not necessary to open the tape. In addition, it also reduce the risk of other bacterial infected wounds and reduces discomfort when the plaster is opened.
This multifunctional medical adhesive tape is consisted of cotton yarn to facilitate the absorption of blood plasma. Such kind of adhesive tape, or a dressing is a sterile pad or compress applied to a wound to promote healing and protect the wound from further harm. A dressing is designed to be in direct contact with the wound, as distinguished from a bandage, which is most often used to hold a dressing in place. In addition, this product will be equipped with a bottle of reagent and flush. "The cotton yarn will absorb the albumin that comes out in the event of skin surface. The next stage spread reagents that will cause a green color on the plaster when reacting with albumin. Flush is done to remove the remaining reagents in the plaster, "said Akhmat who is one of the members of this PKM-KC.
The idea of producing multifunctional medical adhesive tape began when they were studying as he is a prospective veterinarian. Their personal experience when he opens or pulls and closes medical adhesive tape on the treated animal’s wounds to examine its effects and on the recovery rate of skin wounds. The high frequency of checking will cause scratches. Even for animals whose tapes of their wounds are pulled out, they usually will bit due to the discomfort feeling.
Starting from that personal experience encouraged them to develop the Pinnaple Pen multifunctional medical adhesive tape. The group hope in the future, Pinapple Pen plaster adhesive tape will become the educational instrument for young children and adults on the importance of good and right wound handling. (Wied)
