IPB Students Have Been Granted Receive Credit Earning Scholarships
A total of 10 (ten) students of Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB Bogor Agricultural University) have been granted scholarships for Credit Earning at several ASEAN universities. On the other hands, there are 4 (four) students from ASEAN member countries who have been similar scholarship to pursue their study in IPB through this program. Scholarship is a commitment to strengthen regional cooperation, improve quality, regional competitiveness and internationalization of higher education institutions ASEAN.
ASEAN and the European Union (EU) announced the recipients of the second batch of scholarship of "EU Support to Higher Education in the ASEAN Region" (SHARE). A total of 134 (one hundred thirty four) ASEAN students from 29 ASEAN universities in eight ASEAN member countries, have been awarded fully funded scholarships to pursue their higher degree program for one semester in other ASEAN countries.
"The targeted ASEAN Communities are the younger ASEAN generations who would soon become leaders in the near future in their respective areas. As such, we continue to work on to give them the opportunity to develop themselves, find new knowledge, meet new friends and appreciative more of their territory. SHARE scholarship is an excellent scheme which allows them to do perform that program. The mobility of students in ASEAN has formed a foundation that allows our students to determine their identity and appreciate their community, "said Mr. Vongthep Arthakaivalvatee, Deputy Secretary General of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural community.
Inspired by the European Bologna Process and the Erasmus Scholarship, SHARE has established the scholarship scheme to support graduates in its respective areas and local government executives. On behalf of ASEAN Secretariat, 500 scholarships will be administered and will be distributed into four batches; 400 (four hundred) scholarships were allocated for mobility in ASEAN member countries and 100 (hunderd) scholarships will be for ASEAN students studying in the EU. This scholarship is designed to evaluate the implementation of a credit transfer system on ASEAN-wide (ACTS) and the ASEAN-European credit transfer system (AECTS), where students will receive transferable credits from abroad program that will be taken into account when the studies they return to their home countries.
Yet, 16 (sixteen) students from eight ASEAN universities had initiated a scholarship program in 2016. Following the success of this pilot batch, SHARE launched the second call and received more than 300 applications from ASEAN students, of which more than 50% came from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Vietnam. The majority of applicants are women. After the pilot and second batch of scholarships award, SHARE will call other applications from undergraduate students in ASEAN for the two batches in 2017-18.
"Over the last 30 (thirty) years in European countries, more than 3 (three) million students had been granted Erasmus scholarships to enable them pursue their higher degree program in EU countries. Thus, the Erasmus program has contributed to the harmonization of higher education in Europe, and in ASEAN as well. In addition to their personal experiences, I also hope that the SHARE scholarship will contribute to the ASEAN connectivity through people to people relations, "said EU Ambassador to ASEAN, Mr. Francisco Fontan.
